Dead Zone - Aspect Ratio?

I've only watched this show on DVD in its widescreen form. Last night I watched my first TV episode and it was broadcast in 4:3. Does anyone know how and why this was the case? In other words are the DVDs matted?

Probably not. I don't know what channel airs Dead Zone, but Fox for example only airs their shows in widescreen on their HD channels. The analog channels chops off the sides of the screen.

The Dead Zone is filmed in widescreen and is NOT matted for DVD. I don't know why it would be aired in 4:3. Incidentally, Kristen Dalton who plays the red-haired reporter on the show was at a Trek Convention in town this weekend, and she is extremely nice and beautiful in person. Anthony Michael Hall came to the convention last year, and Nicole DeBoer came a few years ago, when she had just finished wrapping DS9 but wasn't yet cast for The Dead Zone.
