Check to see if the UPC number matches the one on Criterion's site

Well it must be a Canadian exclusive cover, but I promise you it exists.

Not to hijack the thread, but, out of curiosity, does the Canadian one have the deleted scenes?
And I've seen 'Life of Brian' go that cheap on E-bay, so it's possible. Also, sometimes stores don't realize how rare something is and sell it cheaper than they ought to. It's definitely possible that it's the real thing. That said, generally, if you suspect it's a bootleg, it probably is (though it could also be a real disc but they lost the original cover art).

From: You have moved into a dark place. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
Yeah, I've gotten a bunch of Criterions at a used place for the same price they sell the Matrix for - i.e. like a regularly-priced DVD.
It's probably real - but check the disc art itself.
And you can also try using DVD Profiler to recognise the disc by disc ID. That way you'll know if it's the real deal.

mine has this holigram about a cenimeterabove the "E" in life. it also doesn;t have the usual CC numbering on the spin of the dvd and the insert cover's edges are not rounded. the disc art is the same as the cover art. the cover art is the same as posted by Canadian Bacon. is you disc art the same as the cover art?

Look around on the case; is there a Canadian (maple leaf) flag on it?
My understanding is that the Canadian version of the Criterion 'Traffic' disc is indentical except that, since it's released by a different company, it doesn't have the spine number, and there's maybe one or two other changes in the case. But the flag is a good quick way to tell if it's Canadian (even if the disc doesn't have "version francais included!" across it).
