Kagemusha (Criterion)?

Anyone hear any news on this one? It was rumored to be in the works by Criterion last year. I really don't want to have to settle for the cut international release version (available in region2).

Well, according to Mulvaney, Criterion has no more Kurosawa planned for this year...we know that Sanshiro Sugata (according to Stephen Prince) and probably this is in the works, though.

When did he say that?

I really like Prince's commentaries. Someone on this site is in his Film class. Can't remember who. I think that is where I got the first hint that Stray Dog was going to be released. The student went up and asked him if he was working on any commentaries and he volunteered that he was working on Stray Dog. Gotta love insider info!

Criterion will put this one out since they aquired the rights to do so earlier this year. Probably for early '05.

Mulvaney. I haven't heard anything about no more Kurosawa this year.

I just saw that the Criterion forum updated their upcoming lists with 3 more Kurosawa films coming soon based on the fact there were new subtitles done.

He basically said it to me in class one day. I asked him if Criterion had asked him to do any more commentaries, and he told me about Stray Dog (this was back in October), and that Criterion knew he had immense want to do Sanshiro Sugata.

I see. I had sent an e-mail to Jon asking about more Kurosawa and he said not until 2005. Well at least I've got Stray Dog and The Lower Depths coming in the mail soon.

Can you provide a link to that forum or it to me? I'd be interested in checking it out. Thanks!
