Those with multi-disc changers...

Do you have any tricks for remembering what DVD is loaded into each position? I often forget where a disc is, and need to check each slot, wasting valuable time. It would be good if the player could somehow read the disc ID and display it on the changer selection list.

Good point

I have actually had that trouble.
What I generally do is have some kind of pattern--disk 3 is always a Netflix disk [except for right now....don't ask...]
Disk 4 is a dvd my son would watch [it's '4' him...]
and disks 1 and 2 are usually tv series, so I just have to remember what's where.
What I have also done: I have a tall, narrow dvd rack right next to my dvd player; it holds about 10 across.
On the top shelf, the first 5 disks are what's in slots 1-5 of the player. Obviously this works great for tv series, which are usually in bigger cases, but I can also see enough of the pattern from across the room to remind me what's in that player slot.

"Wasting valuable time".

Jeez man, I can open the tray and rotate the discs in about 15 seconds.

When I really was watching several things at once, I used a mini dry erase board.

Are you talking about 300 disc changers or 5 disc changers? I would see a problem with a 300 disc but with a 5 disc it really isn't a big deal.

5 is bad enough. 300 would be torture!
I realize some high-end changers have a menuing system.

You gotta be kidding. You need a system for keeping track of 5 slots? You just leave the same discs in there for months at a time? I only ever use the changer feature for music. I don't really have any need to pay attention to what disc is in what slot, I just hit a button a couple of times and voila, there it is.

I thought for sure that you were talking about a 100-400 disc changer.

I finally bought a five disc changer, after getting tired of having to constantly swap out discs on my main player. I have the slots allocated as such:

disc1: Buffy disc
disc2: Angel disc
disc3: animated TV disc (King of The Hill, South Park, etc.)
disc4: oldies TV disc (Good Times, What's Happening, etc.)
disc5: porn

I generally put them in alphabetical order so as long as I can remember what five discs are in, I'll know their slots. For example,
right now I have:

Disc 1-Coupling Season 3 Disc 1
Disc 2-Dead Like Me Season 1 Disc 4
Disc 3-Nip/Tuck Season 1 Disc 1
Disc 4-Simpsons Season 4 Disc 4
Disc 5-X-Files Season 8 Disc 2

As you can see, I use my changer solely for TV DVD's (as well as 1.33:1 films).

Why not stack the cases next to the player in the order of which tray it's in?

I open the tray and spin the tray around. I can usually recognize the disks from my comfy spot on my sofa.

Right now I have

Best Abbott and Costello Vol 1
Frankenstein Legacy
Blade II
Blade II Supplemental Disk
Empty

I am slowing making my way through the top two. Been a bit side tracked lately so they have been there for a while now.

For a 5 disc changer, just push each slot's button. How lazy are you on the scale of 1-10? 20?

Fixed.

Well, actually, that's how mine's setup. Regular movies go in the single disc player.

Fuzzy... I'd ask why you need all porn in a 5-disc changer but maybe we shouldn't go there

How are these mega disc changers, I have been thinking of getting one for my next dvd player down the road. I do notice the larger capacity ones do have filing systems and have a keyboard input to type the names in.

I have heard horror stories about these though, when changing discs, a disc might slide loose and then u will hear the forbidden crunching sound, and obviously it will be in an awkward position meaning the tray door wont open.

'Cause I don't want my porn stuck in a 500 disc changer if, and when, it malfunctions. I can live w/o 5 discs in my collection... for a minute.

Whew... okay. I had visions of pressing the "Play All" button for hours upon hours of porn fun.

ohh yes, when they go wrong they really vcan go wrong, you have to lern what to do and when to do it, but in the begining it messed up a few times and scratched a few dvds, but once you know what your doing its fine, it plays up a bit, even loaded 3 dvds at once one time and span them all and messed them all up, tempremental bugger it is and still I wouldnt ever go back to anything less than 301 dvd changer ever! mines a Sony CX860 very nice too.

just imagine a thief running off with that full of dvds! I would cray to say the least.

Yes, I'm working on that. Planning on getting 2 Sony 400 disc changer and linking them together. Man, it's a good thing I have a headphone setup rather than a speaker setup. Imagine the complains I'll get w/ all the loud big Os.

Because he doesn't have broadband and can't download unlimited amounts of porn?

I have 3 Sony 300-1 disc changers. I also have a Home Theater Master remote control that I have programmed every single disc onto it. This way, if I want to play, let's say "Vertigo", and it's located on player #3, slot 257, instead of having to search through all 3 players, by simply going to the remote's letter "V" (which I alphabetically programmed on the remote), I'll see "Vertigo". By pressing that button, a macro will be sent out that will automatically adjust my system to set the amplifier to the proper device, the TV's video to the proper video, etc, etc, and it will automatically start to play the correct movie. It was a bit time consuming, but now whenever I want to play any of my 900 movies, just 1 button push does the job.
