We've gotten this far in the thread and no one has recommended "Babylon 5"????
yeah, but this is the "What TV show have you discovered with a blind buy" thread, not the "What TV shows on DVD do you recommend?" thread.

But if we are going to recommend DVD's I'd have to put in a plug for my favorite sci fi TV series... Doctor Who!

seriously tho, here's are some shows I got hooked on with Blind Buys. I've discovered alot of great shows with DVD Blind Buys, because I'm too lazy to figure out when they come on TV.

Stargate SG-1 - I got the Season 1, Volume 1 DVD for $9.99 and I was hooked, without a doubt the most underrated sci fi series. Great writting, wonderful characters.

Buffy - I saw a Buffy a couple times on TV before, but didn't understand it much and turned it off after a few minutes. I got the season 1 set as a gift and now I'm hooked... best show I've seen in years. with Buffy I feel like I'm watching one really long great movie rather than TV episodes. There's so many twists and turns, you never know whats going to happen. The charcters are so great. I avoided all the spoilers and watched it with the DVD's. I love the surprises, events in Season 6 blew me away... can't wait for Season 7.

Farscape - I picked up the Season 1 Volume 1 used for $5.00 and got hooked on this show too.

Avengers - nice classic British sci fi/cult series. I've been picking up the single disks used on ebay or second hand shops.

Andromeda - not great, but not bad either, fun little sci fi show, I always liked Kevin Sorbo in Hercules, much better than all the post Original Treks. I am slowly picking them up cheap on ebay.

The Saint - awesome british cult series with Roger Moore, Moore was my Bond as a kid and he's great in this as well. he always hooks up with some hot 60's british girl in every episode.

oh and by the way, I bought the 24 Season 1 set used for $24, but I haven't started watching it yet. As soon as I finish my Battlestar Galactica DVD set I'll start watching 24.

I changed my mind, I won't be buying Freaks and Geeks, there is no english subtitles or closed captions. Such a shame!

No english subtitles or closed captioning=NO SALE!

I had seen a couple episodes of Smallville before I bought it so I kind of knew what I was getting. It's an awesome show, plus Kristi Kreuk isn't too bad on the eyes.

I bought Band of Brothers when it first came out although I had never heard of it before and was extremely pleased.

There apparently are closed captions (but no English subtitles), according to this...you have to get them through your TV.

Yet another vote for Stargate SG-1. It is by far the most underrated Sci-Fi show on tv today. You can usually find the sets for about $30-40 and offer great bang for the buck. Trust the rest of us here. If you are worried about buying the full season sets, pick up a single season disc (usually less than $10, that's what I did a few years ago). That is all it will take and you will be hooked. Now I can't get enough!

Almost all the TV sets I have purchased have been blind buys and I have been pleased with just about all of them. It kinda makes me wonder why I never watch TV (outside of DVD sets).

Best of what I have:

Stargate SG-1 (My wife even loves this and she absolutely hates sci-fi
24
Smallville
Alias
Buffy
X-Files

With the DDD sale going on I have added Monk and Dead Zone to my blind buys.

TV on DVD is my #1 favorite right now.

Shows I bought blind (having never seen an episode prior to purchase) are:

Friends (no joke)
CSI
X Files
Law & Order SVU
Law & Order Criminal Intent
Northern Exposure
Penn & Teller Bullshit!
Homicide
Clerks

Shows I had seen before but still purchased (and recommend):

NYPD Blue
Gilligan's Island
Married with Children
Three's Company
Who's the Boss
Just Shoot Me
SCTV

I'm sure there's plenty more!
