[SIP] The Star Wars Saga
Some of you might have catched a glimpse of these somewhere else already, some might not.
At least I can post the previews here without risking my neck ;-) http://www.roderidder.be/Scara/SW-42.jpg http://www.roderidder.be/Scara/SW-33.jpg This ain't the entire series though, I plan on making a cover for: - an Original Trilogy boxset (quick question: 4disc cover or 6/7 disc cover ? you all know why I say 4 or 6/7 I presume ....) - R2-D2 Beneath The Dome - Ewoks: Caravan of Courage - Ewoks: Battle for Endor - the infamous Holiday Special - a Prequel trilogy boxset cover (6 discs) - finally a special cover for what ever other additional making off dvd's you may have. Thinking about things like Star Wars: The Definitive Collection, "The Making of a Trilogy" Collection, Volume 2 ("From Star Wars to Jedi" & "The Story of Star Wars"), TV Specials, Trailer Colelction, etc etc. This last one will be available in bith the boxset style (which will be a slight variaton on the covers as seen above) and the normal style (as seen above) so it'll match which ever one syou'll have once I throw them out there. If I find enough art for it, I might even just make covers for all of the above mentionned special features / making off discs. If you know off any other discs or if you've got something I haven't mentionned. Feel free to let me know and I'll be sure to take it into serious consideration to make a cover for it. I hope you like the covers :) EDIT: ROTJ, TESB and TPM are finished 100%. AOTC, ANH and Clone Wars still need (high-res or alternate) art for the back area. EDIT2: If any of you would by any chance have a high res textless version of the TPM poster and would be willing to share it with me, that would be very much appreciated. The one I have is high res, but has title and credits on it, thus making it look weird in comparison to AOTC. |
Do you need a hi-res scan of the Ewoks titles? I have those Laserdiscs, and can gladly make then available to you.

These just keep getting better and better - I sort of disagree with your choice of back image for Episode 4, the Tatooine system....As far as needing stuff for Ep. 4, I think I still have some of the Ep. 4 art I tracked down to put together my SW series archived somewhere, and will see if there is anything suitable (that I didnt use already - mine is more of a collage set of backs) that I can send over.
I gotta fairly good res version (could be better IMO) of the TPM poster that I used for my TPM cover - its not as good as the one I found for AOTC (very clean) but, you know where you can get it if you want to check its quality |

They look pretty. :)

Can't hurt to try ;)

there is only thing I might suggest, but it may not work because of the "ROTJ" text on the poster and I'm assuming one of two things:
1) you wanted to get all of Darth into the image 2) the ROTJ title text begins JUST where you cropped on bottom My suggestion is to clip off just a little of DV at the top (30-40 pixels maybe) and show just that much more of Leia on the bottom (a slight shift upwards) - assuming the title text would allow for such a shift, only because the way it is now, it all looks just a tad bottom-heavy if you know what I mean. |
Well you're on top of the problem there ... that's all there is of Leia :(
Right beneath it is the silver bar of the logo / text. |
Damn fine lookin' stuff there Scara! (And welcome back!)
|
Nice work!
|
Thx both of you :)

I noticed this set at "the other place" but couldn't comment on them there.
Great Looking covers scara, I bet these look great printed and sitting next to each other. Also you mentioned you might try to do covers for ANY star wars related stuff, well I happen to own the complete animated series' of Ewoks and Droids and I didn't see Troops listed (it's available as part of the Total Movie DVD series) and if you can find any artwork a matching cover for The Dark Redemption short film would be great :) (I collect any "rare" SW stuff I can find) |
Wonderful work Scaramanga
Welcome home |

You probaly are aware of this site. It has TROOPERS and DARK REDEMPTION as well as many other fan created short films. theforce.net/theater/shortfilms/darkredemption/index.shtml |
OK - its been a while since i looked at the original file - it wasnt completely textless - I had to do a little cloning on it but the area that wound up as visible on my cover doesnt really show it - you're welcome to it if you like - just need to know how you wanna handle this transfer...its 750K

Not to hijack your thread, but since you were kind enough to loan me the sample for silver test printing (which came out phenomenal btw), just thought I'd show you what I meant about my back in your panels/front...
http://s91419117.onlinehome.us/image...SW6_sample.jpg As you can see i did a little moving around and cloning and replacement. One thing I did differently was do a little "cutting out" to make the text appear as if it was metal-stamped into the steel itself, like so... http://s91419117.onlinehome.us/image...erstamping.jpg Trouble is, Im going to have to figure out what the hell it was I did and re-do it from scratch for the others because i didnt think ahead and do it in a way that would be easilly reproducable and modifiable for the rest of the movie - D'OH!!! anyways, once again, hope you dont mind the alterations just thought you'd like to know how i messed with it a little and maybe incorporate some if are so inclined, id be glad to help. The only thing that makes me itch about it is, that I include a made up primary blurb INSIDE the image of my back so I had to clone out the one you had and that leaves a lot of room on my top back - such is life I guess - for its worth, I can live with it. |
Those are nice.

I like what youi have done Scara, but Jupiter has added some nice touches. I love the back. It works perfectly with the front. A little more interesting than mostly metal. I don't think you lose the metal theme at all either. You should implement some of the ideas, or work together and combine your cover with Jup's backs.
Only thing I don't like about Jup's back is the missing yellow band. It seemed to flow better when it ran across the whole cover, like Scara's original design. |
Yeah I know - I was trying to see how that band could have been salvaged - but I also put the crdits higher into the back so then I'd wind up with a band that was empty, so whats the point?
I think his backs are fine - I just spent far too much time and effort on mine not to use them (yes I am actually considering not using my covers bnecause I like what was put together here) |
Well I tried image compositions at first for the back, as can be seen below:
http://www.roderidder.be/Scara/SW-15.jpg But for some reason it just didn't work for me ... most probably because I wanted the images to be free of text, or with minimal text. As Michael indicated too, I wanted to keep "the" stripe. So after that I started experimenting: http://www.roderidder.be/Scara/SW-14.jpg http://www.roderidder.be/Scara/SW-14.jpg Several others, but didn't keep them all on my HD ... so in the end I ended up using what I have right now The original first draft was actually something like this: http://www.roderidder.be/Scara/SW-01.jpg But that didn't work for the front ... So in the end I decided to go for the simple back as a compromise, i'm not entirely satisfied with it, but I've learned to accept it :) All the logos had to go and a simple sub-panel allowed me to put the text on there. I never really liked the back the way it was on my SE VHS tapes, which is about the same style Jupiter uses here. But I'll make sure you get a high res layered background for personal use Jupiter ;-) EDIT: Another thing that made me go for the current design is the fact that it would have been extremely hard to make acceptable compositions for all the "other discs" out there. thinking off all the making off discs then and several others like the 2 Ewoks features and the likes. All things I had to take into consideration when coming up with a template. EDIT2: Last exam today, after that I'm gonna make the boxset covers first of all. They will contain little or no images, Jupiter knows what I'm talking about then ;-) Sneak preview of the basic idea (still needs quite a few changes though: http://www.roderidder.be/Scara/SW-09.jpg |
I like this one as much as Jups. The plain one. Although, I liked the republic/empire logos on the spines of your other ones.

Beautiful. When those are done I'll have to replace the one's I've got!
