uuummmm....what ones would that be? there are only 2 out at the moment...or is it September already and I missed it?

Lol ... there we go again ... I think this is not what we want to discuss. Everyone knows the truth that is out there (I know ... cheap rip-off from the X-Files ... but hey ...) and honest to god I can't blame anyone for having what they have.

That being said however, the OT covers will only be available to the grand public when the official set is released. Sorry, but that's the way it's gonna be.

Ep. 1 & 2 were set for a July 1st release, however, some personal stuff that came up has made me have to push back the release a bit. Won't be much but at least a bit.

The other ones will be made available when they're finished.

Scaramanga 06-18-04 10:55 AM

Here it is, the boxset cover for the Original Trilogy ... designed for a 6/7 disc Alphapack keepcase.

That way it matches the Prequel Trilogy keepcase which will need a 6/7 disc keepcase and most people will need the 3 extra space in the OT boxset for their .... you know what I mean.

However if there are people who want the cover for a 4-disc Alphapack, let me know ... won't match the PT that well then however :( because of the difference in spine width.

Shrinking down the logo on the spine to fit the 4-disc spine will cause the 6/7 disc case of the PT cover to have blank space next to the logo ... the choice is yours.

I guess that if you want to there's always something you can fill up the 2 or 3 empty spaces with .... soundtracks for example ....

Scara,

these look awesome. The only adjustment I'd suggest is to make the text across the top (front and back) a little more prominent - it kinda gets lost in the background texture as it is

Scaramanga 06-18-04 02:14 PM

So my conscience started to get the better part of me .... so I resized the logo on the spine. Made it small enough so it would also fit a 4-disc Alphapack ... and guess what it even makes the 6/7 disc version look better !

http://www.roderidder.be/Scara/SW-52.jpg

At least now a 4-disc cover will be a plausible option :)

Thx matt ;-) ... well it does look better when printed out, but i'll see if there's anything I can do about it.

gorgeous, just gorgeous. When can I get them - huh, huh, huh.

Scara,

Now that I've seen the covers that the studio plans on releasing, your covers are even more incredible.

Great work. :)

JupiterPrime 06-18-04 09:43 PM

Very well done indeed -

AAAHH! I've got it now.....

Eps 1-3 can have teh Imperial logo and maybe, just maybe can have a nice, clean, non-skanky metal texture that we had talked about a long ways back.

hmmmmm.

Damn! In fact, that last one (for the 4 disc alpha) eerily reminds me of the DVD covers the SW movies had in a dream I had *years* ago. Kinda creepy.

And speaking of creepy

Thx to all of you, means a lot to me;-)

hmmmmm.

To actually combine two different textures in one set seems kinda plain wrong to me ... however I could just do a Rebellion and an Imperial set, one with the battered up metal and the other one well ... Imperial like, at least that oughta be a lot easier to create ;-)

Scaramanga 06-19-04 03:24 AM

Other boxsets have been finished too, here's what the spines look like when lined up:

*cut*

There is some sort of repeat in the spine texture, but i'm not sure if i'll be able to extend the texture enough to make it look continious. Would mean somehow extending it by about 2400 px on top of the original 3661 px ... not sure if it would still look good then, cause it would require a lot of cloning :(

XR8FalconSBR 06-19-04 10:52 AM

This is so awesome it makes me want to uninstall Photo Shop and pretend that I never tried to make my own covers in the first place.

DAMN! I can't wait for this to be finished I want to get my hot little hands on them from printing!

You should be proud of yourself man, that is some of the best work I have seen.

The Luggage 06-19-04 11:39 AM

Better order that silver paper now ! :-)

Scaramanga 06-19-04 04:02 PM

After working on these covers for the better part of the day (11 PM here atm) the repeating pattern of the boxset spines was starting to bug me extremely. Not to mrntion thzt it started to look very unprofessional having the same pattern on each spine. That I could not allow ... I could do better.

So I took my texture back to the drawing table, accompanied by a clone army and tried to fix the problem. After about an hour of work or so, things finally started to work out ... and this is the result:

http://www.roderidder.be/Scara/SW-54.jpg

Good news is now that I've made it big enough to not repeat itself on the spine of four 6/7 disc cases I can use it on the single and 4-disc cases too which will get me about 13 spines without repeats for the single discs and 5 spines without repeats for the 4-disc cases. All in all I'd call it a productive day :)

I hope you'll all agree ;-)

Scaramanga 06-20-04 01:53 AM

Quick question: Is it true that the spine width of an Alphapak 3-4-5 disc case is the same ? According to Nexpak's website it should be ... anyone who can confirm this ?

Scaramanga 06-20-04 08:32 AM

Okay, been giving it some thought which discs would go in which cases and the possible combinations.

I basically came up with 3 possible solutions, 1 for those among us who like it as complete as possible and 2 for those of us (which I think will be a minority) who only have legit Star Wars and Star Wars related DVD's.

The Complete Collector's Set

The Prequel Trilogy - 6/7 Disc Alphapak

The Phantom Menace
+ Special Features Disc
Attack of the Clones
+ Special Features Disc
Revenge of the Sith
+ Special Features Disc

The Original Trilogy - 6/7 Disc Alphapak

A New Hope
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
Bonus Material
A New Hope (1981 version)
The Empire Strikes Back (1980 version)
Return of the Jedi (1983 version)

The Making of a Saga - 6/7 Disc Alphapak

Star Wars - The Definitive Collection

- Star Wars Episode II - The Saga Continues
Trailer Collection
R2-D2 Beneath the Dome Mockumentary

Expanded Universe - 6/7 Disc Alphapak
  1. Ewoks: Caravan of Courage / Battle for Endor
  2. Ewoks
  3. Droids
  4. Clone Wars
  5. Holiday Special
  6. 2 empty spaces for fan films or shorts like Troops and Thumb Wars you might have on DVD ...
7. I've also noticed that there are a few stand-alone covers (well if you could call em covers anyway) out there for
    - Classic Creatures: Return of the Jedi
    - From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga
I don't know if there are any actual discs available that have all space devoted to these documentaries , but since people who have both them on seperate discs will not be likely to have both of the documentary volumes in the "Making of" set it should not be much of a problem to store them in the case.Although I would think most people would have upgraded to the documentary volumes once they were made available :)
The Complete "Legit" Collector's Set

The Prequel Trilogy - 3/4/5 Disc Alphapak

The Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones
Revenge of the Sith

The Original Trilogy - 3/4/5 Disc Alphapak

A New Hope
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi

The Making of a Saga - 3/4/5 Disc Alphapak

Bonus Material Original Trilogy
Bonus Material The Phantom Menace
Bonus Material Attack of the Clones
Bonus Material Revenge of the Sith

Expanded Universe - 3/4/5 Disc Alphapak
  1. R2-D2 Beneath the Dome
  2. Thumb Wars (at least I think there was some sort of legit release for it)
  3. Clone Wars (once it gets released, rumoured to be in early 2005)
4. Of course the Expanded Universe collection can easily be dropped from this configuration ad you'll still have 3 sets, the PT, the OT and a Making of set.
The Complete "Legit" Saga

The Prequel Trilogy - 6/7 Disc Alphapak

The Phantom Menace
+ Special Features Disc
Attack of the Clones
+ Special Features Disc
Revenge of the Sith
+ Special Features Disc

The Original Trilogy - 3/4/5 Disc Alphapak
  1. A New Hope
  2. The Empire Strikes Back
  3. Return of the Jedi
  4. Bonus Material
5. In this set you'll have two keepcases, but they'll have different spine sizes, so I strongly recommend the The Complete "Legit" Collector's Set without the Expanded Universe instead. This one is basically just a solution for those few among us (if they exist at all) who only want the OT or the PT or both in a seperate set.
Of course there's more possible combinations then these 3, but I can't really start figuring them all out, my guess is that with these options available I should be able to please most of you ... I hope.

Revenge of the Sith
Is that confirmed yet?

The multi-disc covers are awsome Scara! I can't decide which to use, individual cases or multi! Good job!

He didnt deny it when asked - all he said was that over all the speculation to date, SOMEONE had already guessed it correctly.

This is all working out pretty damn solid, these covers....I have one question though - are you going to be putting the titles listed on the spines at all for each set? Dont know if it would be the way to go, but kinda wondering how that would look.

JupiterPrime 06-21-04 08:44 PM

Hey hold the phone ... what is this I see? Spanning background on spines? uummm - you gonna revisit the individuals and do the same?

Not at all confirmed ... just a placeholder till we know the actual title . It doesn't really matter what the title is for the boxsets anyway :)

As far as choosing goes, I guess that all depends on how many of the dvd's you have or don't have, and what you plan to get or not get in the future.

But I know what you mean ... gonna have a hard time choosing myself too :-S

That is kind off what I was planning to do yes, texture can span 13 (single width) covers before it'll repeat itself ... guess that will have to do.

Way ahead of you ... tried that out at first, but the spine started to look a bit too crowded IMO.
