So, is anyone interested in starting a DVD-Covers newsgroup?

I don't know jack about this, but I've been looking around a bit and it looks a bit intensive. If people here really want to share, acquire DVD covers this seems like the best way. Newsgroups are easy to post to with PowerPost and easy to request and comment on peoples work. It could be a nice forum for peoples work with instant feedback.
Is there anyone that wants to give this a whirl? Or would everyone rather sit back and cry about Disney?
I know Comcast gives me 1MB a month on Giganews. So I assume most cable providers do the same. If not, Giganews is very easy to sign up for and inexpensive.
alt.binaries.dvd-covers I can see it now. A utopia of DVD covers for all to share.

Check out http://members.fortunecity.com/nnqweb/ncreate.html
for info on setting up a newsgroup.

earthlink has a newsgroup service but I'm not sure if there's a limit to how much I can download or not. I would definitely love a DVD covers newsgroup so I can convert all those snappers to keep cases

Deja Vu. Seems as if we have jumped backwards a couple of years.
It is still a good idea.

It's a great idea. Unfortunately, Verizon has put a block on adding new alt.binaries.* newsgroups to their server since a big fiasco a few months ago when their server retention dropped to crap. So I know that'll leave me and several others relying on services like Astraweb or Easynews to access it. But hell yes, I would love a covers newsgroup.

So, TboyTN is attempting to start a newsgroupand if it doesn't fall through, he says there is a group called 'alt.binaries.dvd_covers'
I won't get to my home computer till Wed. If I can caccess any of those sites, I'll start posting and see if we can get some word around the net. I will let everyone know when I make a post.

Just checked, alt.binaries.dvd_covers is available on Easynews. Posted a message to see if it propagates.

It probably should have been alt.binaries.dvd.covers to fit into the hierarchy.

It's not on Giganews, but I requested it. They are giving me a hard time about requesting a newsgroup though cause I don't have an account with them but rather a free monthly account with comcast that uses Giganews. I emailed them back asking for a break, so we'll see.
If anyone here has Giganews, then request it please. PowerPost is ready to shake off it's dust.

On a newgroup you can post a file (Most would use PowerPost 2000) and whomever visits the newsgroup chooses whether they want to download it or not. Unless someone posts a small preview you won't know what ur' getting until you download it. All you'll know about the download is the description from the filename. You need a newsreader to read the groups. I like to use XNEWS. You can post questions, requests whatever on a newsgroup and in that sense it's very much like a forum. It's a forum with stuff that can be downloaded.

It's customary to have an info file (.nfo ) or a 0/1 text message so that folks would know what it was before downloading. Something like this:

Title: Rocky XXX
Artist: Sly
Homepage: n/a
Resolution: 3240x2175
Region: 1
Language: English
Type: Custom (or Scan, etc)

A small preview would be nice for those on dialup.
