Finally Bought It.....

I know I am probably the last person on this forum to buy it, but I finally bought the Godfather Collection. Being a broke college student with a new car, I can never scrape up enough to buy the big sets, but i finally got it. Now I'm just waiting for Band of Brothers to drop a few bucks into my range along with a fresh paycheck.....

Which DVD's have you guys splurged on or finally got that you had wanted really bad???

The Futurama sets. Not that expensive, really, just never figured I'd get around to watching them with all the other unwatched dvd's I'm trying to catch up on. However, they sure look good on the shelf!

Nope, not the only person. Don't have the Godfather Box set nor do I plan to own it. I'm probably the only person here that doesn't like the movies.

X Files.

I am not a sci-fi guy, nor have I ever seen the show, but a really good deal surfaced, and I ended up buying all 9 Season Sets.

It is still on order at the moment, but will be here soon!

The other one that I got was the entire Twilight Zone Series (49 disc set) called The Gold Edition.

That still is the gem of my collection.

Buying all 7 seasons of Star Trek: DS9, and seasons 2-7 of TNG really put a hole in my wallet. Fortunately I got Band of Brothers brand new (with tin) for under $50 off of ebay. Got Alien Quad for $60 at Sams Club. Haven't had a chance to get the Godfather Trilogy yet. I may just pick up The Godfather single release, since that's the one I like the most.

I don't own it either... Although, I do have the single disc release of The Godfather... That's a great film. That said, Part II bores me to tears and Part III is mostly an afterthought... So, no need for those in my collection...

Big splurges... Not many left for me, I tend to keep up to date on the TV on DVD that I dig (Simpsons, Futurama, South Park, etc). I suppose the last "must have" splurge I made was picking up the Criterion Hitchcock box, had to have those before they went OOP...

I still haven't bought it either. And they are among my favorite movies, I even enjoyed part III. It's the same with all boxsets, I have a hard time justifying the price.

I haven't even seen the Godfather films.

I was able to get Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas CC along with 2 other CC from digitaleyes after wanting it forever. I was just waiting for a good price along with a nice little coupon.

Don't have the Godfather set either because:

A) overpriced
B) film #3 is not very good

Have bought single disc edition of Godfather from Columbia House @~$9, plan to purchase Godfather II from Columbia House as well when it comes out.

And yes, Godfather I is overrated. Want a good mob movie, Goodfellas is the way to go period!

-------------------------------------------------
Finally bought Kino Metropolis DVD by Fritz Lang for about $17.

Wow!

Everyone go buy it, amazing stuff!

Oh geez, I just stumbled onto a bash the Godfather thread. I thought this was about recommending other box sets to a lucky soul who looking to splurge a bit. So with that being said...

That 5 movie Scorsese set coming in August is looking good. The Alien Quad is an amazing set, but it all depends on your opinion of the last two movies.

never seen any Godfather movies

I hadn't purchased any box sets until today and am pretty new to DVD's and HT.

This week, I ordered Scarface DGS, Alias 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Seasons, Adventures of Indiana Jones, Austin Powers Set, Die Hard UC, Star Wars Trilogy WS, and of course, The Godfather Collection.

Band of Brothers has been on my wish list for a long time.

I know I'd probably like it but $69~ for it is too steep for me.

How can you have not seen the Godfathers?

You are denying yourself of a great viewing experience.

The stellar acting plus the music and score is something everybody should see and hear.

I usually wait for Christmas (Band of Brothers) or birthdays (2 James Bond sets) to ask for the expensive stuff.

But I sold a crapload of DVDs on the company bulletin board to finance the purchase of the Civil War and Baseball by Ken Burns.

The Civil War was well worth the $70 spent (via DV2 CH trial). I hope Baseball is as good.

I can't say I've splurged on the Disney Treasures, because I usually buy them 1-2 at a time. If you like Disney I'd splurge on the set of Disney treasures collections they have at Costco. The kids (and I) get great re-watch value off the tins.

BTW-BoB is freaking terrific.

Don't have the Godfather box either. After they were announced, I found the green cover LDs for $7 a piece and will keep those prob until HD DVD.

I've been holding off of some Fellini films... mostly due to the price. But by combining the Barnes & Noble buy-2-get-1-free deal with the B&N discount card I picked 3 Criterion Fellini films for $70. "La Strada", "8-1/2", and "Amarcord". They can now keep my Criterion "Nights of Cabiria" company.

I picked it up on ebay not too long ago for $50 even, brand new. It's usually around that same price everytime I look.

Anyways on topic... big sets that I bought. Band Of Brothers obviously. Heard great things about it, and bought it as a blind buy... didn't regret it at all.

Toy Story UTB was a little steep at the time. I'm glad I caved in though, I love the movies, they look great, and I could drown in the extras.

I finally caved in and bought the Godfather Collection a month or so ago too. On sale for $50 at Circuit City. Incredible movies, and an incredible package. I'm not even close to finishing it.

Maybe it's just me, but I have a pretty hard time buying Criterion titles sometimes. 30-40 bucks for a single DVD seems like a waste when I turn around and find other movies I'd like where I could get more for the same price. But when I do cave in and pick up a CC, I never regret it. Fear & Loathing and Rushmore are a couple that come to mind. A tough buy, but worth every penny.
