B&N/Universal pull Monster Legacy DVD's from shelves

Barnes & Noble is currently having a Buy-2-Get-1-Free sale on all DVD's, and I thought that would be a good opportunity to buy the three titles in the Universal Monster Legacy Collection: Frankenstein, Wolf Man, and Dracula. However, none of the B&N's around me had them in stock. When I asked a clerk about them, he told me they had them a few weeks ago, but they pulled them from the shelves and sent them back to the distributors until the sale is over. He said Universal didn't want them included in the sale, and B&N didn't want to exclude any titles, so they simply pulled them from the store.

Can anyone verify this? If Universal is getting its money on every sale, why would Universal care how much the retailer sold them for?

If this is true, are there other titles that got pulled from the shelves during the sale?
