Help me make sense of different AMADEUS releases
Hi, looking to replace my old disc of AMADEUS, and I've found THREE apparently different versions:
2-disc Special Edition - $20.40 (DDD)

Amadeus "Classic" (Director's Cut) - $39.59 (DDD)
Amadeus Limited Edition Collector's Set - $53.98 (Amazon)
I would normally just go for the $20 SE, but this is my #1 favorite movie of all time, so I want to go for the best. Details are scarce, though, on what exactly is included in these different releases in terms of bonus features, what's on the extra discs, etc. Niether Amazon or DDD had any info on the features, and a search on this site did not reveal further info. Any information would be appreciated as I continue to research this.

I was able to find information on the 2-disc SE, but still would like to know the difference between it and the other two ("Classic" and "Collector's Set," at least one of which is a 3-disc set).
Thanks!
Thanks!

But the soundtrack is a 2-CD set (at least mine from 1986 is).

Thanks for all the info. Near as I can tell with further digging is that the "Classic" one (as noted) includes a 1-disc CD soundtrack and a senitype (image from the film with corresponding 35mm frame), while the "Limited Edition Collector's Set" also includes a mail-in offer for a free one-sheet poster. Seems like quite a price difference if the only difference is the poster (and maybe fancier packaging).

And the more I research, the more it appears that the "Classic" version listed on DDD is most likely the exact same product as the "Limited Edition Collector's Set" listed on Amazon. Sorry for my confusion, and I appreciate all your help!

On the soundtrack... It was originally released as a two-disc... Not sure what the heck that one disc is, probably a "best of"... But, at any rate, here's what I would do (since this is what I have)... Pick up the two disc SE and also the latest re-issue of the soundtrack CD (which is still a two-disc)... You'll have to look around for a deal on the CD (or see below), it's pricey (lists for $44 and change at Amazon)... This is the one...

Remastered, gold discs... The sound quality is much better than the original release of the soundtrack... You can pick this up through the Columbia House CD Club as an enrollment selection, if you're not against the idea of joining the CD club. Selection #813261. There's a thread in the deals forum (IIRC) that lists the best codes to use for the CH CD Club.
Of course, if you just want the DVD, go with the two disc SE...

The "soundtrack" ...... it's Mozart. It's not as if it's an original score composed for the movie. There are thousands of CDs of Mozart music, so there are alternatives.....

Thanks again for the continued info, advice and feedback. Marty888 makes a good point; in fact, I already own most of the material from the soundtrack on various Mozart CDs. I'll probably go with the 2-disc SE, since I don't really care about the senitype or booklet either.

actually, there are three total discs that make up the soundtrack of the film. the first release was the two-disc set previously mentioned. a while after that was released, a single third disc with green front cover art background--instead of the berry-color of the first two-disc'er--was released. so, to have all the music used in the film, you should track down the two-disc set, and the third single disc release.
here's an amazon link to the 3rd disc:

edit: i just discovered that they got smart and boxed all three discs together:
