Single disc Aliens Collector's Edition - worth the upgrade?
Hi all,
I have the original R1 release of Aliens. Does anyone recommend purchasing the single disc release from the Quadrilogy set?
The documentary looks enticing, does it feature any footage on set?

DVD Talk Special Edition
You mean the 2-disc SE of Aliens, right?
The documentary is fantastic. There are interviews with practically everyone and lots of great behind-the-scenes footage as well.

Sounds good, thanks!
I have a question about the commentary track though, from what I understand there's 2 on the Region 1 disc - one for the theatrical cut and another for the special edition.
Are they completely different, or is the special edition commentary just an extension of the theatrical cut commentary?
Because on the UK Region 2 disc the theatrical cut commentary has been ommitted, but the special edition commentary remains.
Thanks,
Mark

The commentary on the RI is the same for both cuts, From DVDFile:
"Disc one includes a new screen-specific audio commentary that is just plain odd. It's the only track on this edition that features Sigourney Weaver, always wonderful, as well as Scott, screenwriter Dan O'Bannon, executive producer Ronald Shusett, editor Terry Rawlings, and actors Tom Skerritt, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton and John Hurt. Yet it is a bit of a makeshift and jumbled affair. I preferred the old solo Scott track. This feels like excerpts from the documentaries, and lacks a specific purpose. No, it is not redundant with the massive documentary, but is for ALIEN fanatics only. And where's more info on the Director's Cut changes and additions? A solo Ridley track might have worked out better there, too. (Note that all of the audio commentaries in the Quadrilogy cover both the theatrical and extended cuts of the each film.)"
So you lose the old solo Scott commentary. You might want to research the previous threads on this release for more details.
