Wonderfalls!!!
According to tvshowsondvd.com Fox has plans to release the 13 filmed episodes of "Wonderfalls" around christmas of 2005.
Looks like FOX is trying to repeat the success they had with the "Firefly" set last year.

I'm actually sad about this news. I am sad because I know now the creator of the show has exhausted all he could to try to get this show back on the air. He had stated he would use DVD as the last resort to get this series seen. I do not understand why NOBODY wanted to pick this show up. UPN and WB and the major networks, I can kinda understand since they suck, but USA is always looking for new series to air, and this series probably would have fit in best on Showtime with Dead Like Me. And maybe, just maybe, if it was popular enough on one of those cable networks, it could have gotten a season two. The DVD release, to me, is like the creator of the show just threw in the towel.
I am glad to get to see the rest of season one, but it's just a bittersweet victory because of what this release symbolizes. Unless there are plans to bring the series back provided the DVDs sell well enough, as was the case with Firefly.

If not for Firefly's success on DVD, we probably wouldn't have a movie on the way. If not for Family Guy's success on DVD, there wouldn't be new episodes in production. Maybe nothing of that sort will come from Wonderfalls, but at least I'll have 13 episodes of a shortlived series I really enjoyed on my DVD shelf.
I'd rather have a small number of episodes of a series that I really like than none at all. Fox may pull the trigger quickly on its shows, but Wonderfalls is the type of series that I couldn't really see any other major broadcast network taking a chance on.

Well, Adam Tyner brought it up first, but I will point to "Family Guy" as well. A DVD release may be a chance to get your show back. I don't understand why it would be considered a "last ditch effort."
I'm waiting for the day when one of these TV show creators gets really creative and starts to independently produce episodes and release them straight to DVD. Think of the bucks they could rake in by releasing one disc each month with 3-4 episodes on it. I can guarantee a marketing strategy like that would catch the eye of a network real quick. (Please archive this post so that in a few years I can point back and say "See, I had another one well before its time!")

UPN is refusing to look at any programs that they themselves did not develop.
WB has decided to go with reality shows. I am surprised that they even looked at it. After Angel, many people are boycotting the network.
I am bit confused. What year is it being released? Thanks

As posted at SaveWonderfalls.com and in the announcements section here:
We've got some very good news for everyone who's been campaigning their asses off for the past month -- it looks like we're going to get those DVDs! Tim Minear posted this on a messageboard today:
"Okay, some tiny good news -- looks as though 20th is going to go through with "Wonderfalls" DVDs. The folks on the DVD marketing side love the 13 episodes and see great potential. We're talking about extras and commentary and all that good stuff. December/Holiday release was mentioned. I'll keep you updated. (BTW -- a flood of 'postcards' was mentioned. We were asked, 'that's not your families sending those, is it?' Um. In a *way*...)"
We also spoke with Bryan Fuller, who says "20th is very interested in releasing a DVD but we have to figure some things out to make it financially doable, specifically the music liscensing. They did the same thing on Roswell, swapping out some more expensive songs with more affordable ones. You'll also notice on the Sixteen Candles soundtrack that very few of the songs you may have seen in the theater actually appear on the video version."
Bryan also stresses that we "shouldn't stop sending post cards until it's done and done -- you never know what can derail something like this." So please continue to show 20th you're interested -- obviously they're listening!

Undeclared had one episode not seen here, and it was the 'season finale'. The episode that was aired here as the 'last' was not. I'm still waiting for that damn DVD set

Sad that no one else decided to take a chance on Minear's beloved show, however, I'll eagerly be picking this up. With the news of this along with the upcoming Keen Eddie release I'm content in the knowledge that I can at least sit back now and enjoy some quality programming as opposed to what's currently being aired by most major networks.

Why are music rights being an issue still for new shows? For older shows negotiated before the advent of DVD, I can understand, but shouldn't the studio execs be putting clauses in the contracts for music that they will get included in the DVDs as well. Not that we will notice replaced music in the unaired episodes, but it's still a question I am wondering about nonetheless.
Tim Minear himself made it seem as if DVD would be his last ditch effort. I am not generalizing for all releases. He really wanted to get this on TV again, and hopefully get a second season greenlighted. The DVDs, from what I have read from his comments in the past, are indeed a last ditch effort for this show.
Anybody know what networks he shopped this series around to? I am surprised a fringe network didn't pick it up. It could have been a great addition to Trio's "Brilliant But Cancelled" series.

Costs more to get both broadcast and DVD rights to a song.

Why doesn't fox move shows like wonderfalls and firefly, and arrested developement (you know it will be replace with some kind of a joe millionare/bachlor/gay midget reality show) to FX. These are shows that have don't have mainstream appeal, but have very loyal fanbases and are critically liked. It seems like that fox could make FX into one hell of a cable channel, but putting these shows with with such shows as the Shield, and nip/tuck.
