Never catching up?! (DVD Collections...)

DVD Talk Limited Edition
I'm working on mine, February 1 I had about 550 unwatched (not watching a single movie in January didn't help). Through diligent watching (I've watched about 200 since February 2) and not as much purchasing, I'm down to about 425 unwatched. I'd curtail buying completely, but a whole lot of what I'm interested in is catalog titles, and you never really know how long those will be in print.
Eventually, I'll get down to no unwatched, and never be in this position again!

I'm at 22 unwatched. Not too bad since this include a 6 from a Columbia House enrollment I just received.
I am still making my way through Abbott and Costello Collection and the Universal Monsters Legacy Collections.
I've decided to cancel my Netflix membership to allow me to watch my new purchases. It will also give me more time to revisit some old favorites.

Just for the record I have watched about half the collection. That means I have seen over 10,000 films in that collection over the years. I'm getting there. Anyone wants tours of the collection?
By the way, I really do not have a digital camera. My friend came over with one and my father took the pictures.

I have more than I'd like to admit, but nowhere near the triple digits, wow. Right now I have all my unwatched movies in a seperate rack, and having them seperated from the rest is actually helping me pick up an unwatched title a lot easier.
The "thrill" thing with buying I've seen only with people who weren't totally into movies until DVD. For most movie nerds from the cradle (that would be me as well) the thrill is seeing a new movie, and the more you end up liking it the better.

I see stuff I want on sale, so I buy it. I don't want to put myself on a DVD buying moratorium just because I haven't watched everything I already own. Also, 90% of my unwatched movies I've previously seen, so I'm not in a huge hurry to watch them.

I typically only have about 4 movies at the most that I own but have not watched due to the fact that I usually only purchase DVD's of movies that I have seen before or intend to watch fairly soon. Netflix has helped in keeping from purchasing those movies that I wouldn't have enough interest in owning.

I'm not even going to try to count how many of my dvds I haven't watched yet. I would say out of the 800 dvds I have, 400 of them I probably haven't watched and at least 200 of those are still sealed.

I would have a lot more of my collection watched, but almost all of the unwatched discs are ones I have traded for. I make DVDs I purchase a priority over the trades.

A lot of us as you have found out have this problem, some more than others. I was fine until TV shows started coming out on DVD. Yesterday I just finished the fourth season of Sanford and Son. It took me about 3 weeks to watch all 4 seasons. In those 3 weeks I have went and bought or got in the mail 4 box sets and 2 individual movies. 2 months ago I was caught up and it was great, today I'm over 50 hours behind and hate it. I am addicted but since I don't drink or smoke or do drugs the money I have is better spent on this addiction. I seem to only find 1 or 2 hours a day at the most to devote to DVD's which does not help me catch up.

TV Sets are killing me as well. Even if I get all the movies caught up, TV shows lurk large. I would say I am maybe 250 or so out of around 700-800. I have tons of sealed DVD and even LD - granted the LD are recent eBay pickups, but still it is sad - I went on a buying and trading spree about two months ago and probably doubled the number.

I got about 40 or more that I haven't seen. TV sets are hard to get through! I watch all the extras too.
If they didn't have so many sales on release date, I wouldn't buy so much!

I have roughly 300 DVDs give or take 10 or so. I have maybe 4 titles that I haven't watched. Two of them are the sequals to Lonesome Dove. And the others are a couple I just bought and received. However, just a while back, I had about a seasons worth of episodes unwatched spread across two different series.

DVDs are an addiction, plain and simple. Folks love having a brand new DVD in shrink wrap all ready to be opened by grubby little fingers. Also displaying the DVD on your shelf, going to DVDProfile or Afic.... I'm telling ya, it's the whole experience of buying a DVD and having it that is addicting, not so much that you will watch it over and over again. I usually buy DVDs with extras, and do not want the barebones release, why? Because I'll watch the supplementals? Probably not, if its a movie I'm not crazy about, but because I have "the best version", or because the box "looks so cool", or "is a collectors edition!."
Bottom line.. it never ends. Unless you sell all your DVDs (which people tend to do often here, .. check out DVD exchange, and start a new hobby).
