Babylon 5: The Movies - Aug. 17th!!!
From: DVDAnswers
Just having the movies in 5.1 sound makes this a no brainer (if you're a fan, that is.) Of course, commentaries on each one is also a big bonus. And with a $60 MSRP, I can see the set going for around the lower $40 range.
Title: Babylon 5: The Movies
Starring: Bruce Boxleitner
Released: 17th August 2004
SRP: $59.98
Further Details
Warner have just released some early details on a five disc Babylon 5: The Movies set which includes the feature length episodes The Gathering, In the Beginning, Thirdspace, River of Souls and finally A Call to Arms. Each of these will be presented in the original aspect ratio along with English Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks. Extras will include an introduction to each of the five movies by creator J. Michael Straczynski, audio commentaries on each movie by the creator, cast and crew and a Creating the Future featurette which looks at how science fiction and the show influenced each other. This one will be available to own from the 17th August this year, and should retail at around $59.98. Stay tuned for the package artwork.

What the hell?? No Legend Of The Rangers? I really liked that one!
Would they put that one out as part of the Crusade set? I doubt it, but I'd like to see LOTR on DVD.
Even without Legend of the Rangers this is still a "must buy."

It would be nice if they would include the scenes cut from "The Gathering" to make the "Special Edition," or even include the original version somehow. I really want to see the zoo-like Alien Sector again.
(Don't get me wrong, though, the revamped "The Gathering" is vastly superior to the original.)

I'd love for them to release the original version on DVD for comparison... maybe even with a JMS commentary/documentary showing some of the things he did.
For now, the only 'official' way to get the original is through the Columbia House TV club. And only on VHS. I picked it up for $4 a couple of years ago.

So has anyone read anything explaining why Legend Of The Rangers isn't in this box set?
Seasons 1-5 were all 6 disc sets, and adding Legend Of The Rangers would make this a 6 disc set, so I don't get why they didn't include it.

Also, don't really care for Legend, so I'm happy with it as is.

I've JUST started watching B5 through the CH TV Edition (can't beat $9.99 for two season sets) and I hope they get seasons 4 and 5 soon so I can finish up the series.
Anyway, from what I know of the show it was only intended to run for five seasons from the get-go, and then they did a few movies afterwards? And these are those?
So what is the other stuff that people are complaining isn't in this set?

2. Legend of the Rangers is a movie that came out a couple of years ago. Sci-Fi Channel was going to use it to spin off a new B5 show, but it didn't live up to ratings expectations (playing it opposite one of the best football games in history didn't help much) and they scrapped the idea.

It's funny, Sci-Fi showed "Legend of the Rangers" last night. I thought the acting was pretty bad, but the story was interesting. So that was just a one-off pilot movie, then?

I watched it too and was surprised at how bad parts of it were. I haven't seen Babylon 5 in quite some time but don't recall it being that poor in quality both in acting and some of the writing.

I caught part of this last night and wasn't too impressed. Is this par for the course for B5?

Watching Legend of the Rangers made me cringe. It had a confusing story-line and some questionable acting performances.

I thought it would have made more sense to include LOTR in the movie box set rather than the Crusade set since G'Kar has a prominent role in LOTR, and since it has nothing to do with Crusade, but that's just me.
The only part of LOTR that I didn't really like was the "VR" weapons control deal. That was pretty lame. Other than that I thought it was pretty good.

I wouldn't say so. The story of the B5 series is one of my favorite sci-fi arcs. The acting I would also say ranges from fairly good to great at moments.

I taped all the shows and still watch them from time to time... but will probably go ahead and buy the sets on dvd.
I agree that The Legend of the Rangers was pretty bad....
