I've got 11 unopened "Muppet Show" DVDs from the 15 DVD set from Time Life. Bought them a year and half ago. It was at this point that I realized I was spending too much on DVDs that were just nice to have. Don't get me wrong... I love "The Muppet Show"...

Since then, I don't buy DVDs every week like I had been for over two years at that point. Now I buy a DVD if it's a film I really think I will watch more than once, even if I loved the movie when I saw it in theaters.

So, I went somewhere from averaging about 60 DVDs a year to, well, I don't even think I bought 10 DVDs in the past year. A relief to my wallet and a relief to my sagging shelves!

Over 100...and yes, I have been "burned" by allowing this to happen. I opened up Season 1 of Mad About You and there was only one DVD inside.

Purchased or presented DVDs only remain wrapped in my possession for the amount of time it takes me to get the wrapping off after being given to me.

1. But its just a double copy of the Rushmore CC that i'm waiting to either send back for a refund or trade with someone. Other than that I open up the dvds as soon as I get them.

None, I only buy movies I want to watch, and I don't buy all that many (probably about 15 a year).

the only one still wrapped is unbearable likeness of being. I have no intention of watching it. I only bought it in case a friend wanted it someday, since it was going out of print. So far, no one wants it!

Too many to count off the top of my head... it's a little embarrasing actually. I know all the arguments about watching them immediately to find any defects or flaws, but I just keep buying them. And not watching them... It's a disease really .

I'm guessing (since I'm not at home right now) that I have between 30 and 40 DVDs, including some box-sets, still sealed.

Someone mentioned their wife - my wife doesn't get mad but she will say something every now and then about all the DVDs. But she balances my DVD spending by buying 50 different types of black shoes. Actually, her unwatched, still wrapped, pile of DVDs is worse than mine. Probably more than 50% of her DVDs are still wrapped. Admittedly, it's a much smaller collection, but still...

I don't have any wrapped DVD's simply because I usually opened every DVD I buy to check disc for scratches or defects. But I have about 25 DVD's unwatched.

I generally open my new DVD's the day I get them due to the "defective / return policy" factor.

The only DVD that was 'returned' (BestBuy) due to being defective was "Star Gate CE". I also had a couple of DVD's in two different Star Trek Generations Sets had shows that skipped or pixelized at certain points of the story. It was easily repeatable so upon closer examination of the DVD surface revealed that near the outer edge, there was a small thin line made out of glue, like rubber cement. Once I removed it, those shows played fine.

Present DVD Library Titles/Sets: 448 (since 1998 - 98% of the 1st 175-200 DVD's were only DD/DTS-5.1 formats)

Just 4 wrapped DVD's:

2) Hot Shots! (gift - 9-7-02)
3) Mrs. Doubtfire (received FREE - one of those Buy 2 get 1 FREE - 2002)
4) Peggy Sue Got Married ($9.00 total - 5-11-04 Tower Records - my daughter works there!)

Only have 6 wrapped DVDs but two of them are television season sets. Now if you want to count unwatched DVDs the list would be somewhere over 50 discs.

I only have 1 and that's a double I already own.

My stack's been hovering around 10-15 since stocking up via sales and gifts in December. I haven't been burned by a defective or missing disk yet so am pretty lax about checking them. Counting disks where I've watched the movie but haven't yet made it through all the extras it's sadly nearly double that.

As for the question of why people buy so many DVDs if they're not going to watch them, I think I speak for most of us when I say we *are* going to watch them, we just haven't gotten around to it yet. It's a result of the "More Money than Time" syndrome, at least for me. The last time I called in sick to work I watched more stuff than I had in the previous month. Thanks, stomach flu! I should really get sick more often...

I have 3 in the context that you are speaking of: ER (Season 2), Big Fish, and Noises Off... And those are only unopened because I haven't had a chance to sit down and watch them yet, but after finals are over... =D

BUT, in a more technical manner, I have many more wrapped than that. With box sets that are designed like the multi-fold book inside a shell, I only cut away the portion of the cellophane that keeps me from removing the set. I hate someone elses greasy fingerprints all over the Friends boxes or the LOTR EE boxes...

zero. I dont have faith in quality control like some people around here. save yerself the pain...take off the blindfold and inspect those dvds.

3 or 4 DVDs I've received a couple of days ago.

Zip. I immediately open them puppies up and inspect them thoroughly for defects.

I went on a huge buying spree about 2 months ago and bought nearly 100 in a month, so I've still got about 70 of those to watch. Eugh so many! But at least I won't be blind-buying over the summer, since I've got so much to watch already. All of them are, of course, unwrapped and checked for flaws and whatnot.

The others are just titles of film that I've enjoyed at one time or another, but just haven't been in the sort of mood to spin them up. Oh well .. 30day return policy .. bahh .. I rarely use BM stores anyway.

... and for Kermit's sake, I don't get all the worry about the return policies anyway. Out of my meager 350 plastic contained collection, I've had to return not but one. Yeah, I've had a few scratched ones out of the used copies that I've acquired, but never enough to kill it's playability.

about 5-10 out of 100 or so. i only unwrap them when i want to watch them.

0. I used to have a few but now I open them all right away- I've gotten enough defective discs (maybe 2 or 3, but that's enough) that I open and check everything now.

About 600-700 are sealed for me, out of 1300+ total in my collection, of which I have watched about 100, and the rest of the opened ones I have not watched are largely open because they were bought used and already opened.

Oh, and please don't flame me or criticize me for doing this. Everyone has the right to collect whatever they want. I also have a few hundred CDs that are unopened so lets not get started.

I am of the mindset like another poster also stated about not seeing the need to open something until you are ready to use it. Of course, if it sounds loose in the case, etc., I will open it to check it.

By the way, the best decision I ever made was never opening my original Salo Criterion, bought from Bigstar years ago for under $10 with coupons, and sold a few months ago online for $850 or so. If it had been opened, it would have been worth a fraction of that.
