Traffic Criterion Canadian Version

I know this was covered during its initial release, but what are the differences between the US and Canadian versions of Traffic? I bought one from half.com, and received the Canadian version, just want to know if I missed out on something. Thanks...

I got this also (probably from the same seller - some guy in PA right?)

If you can dig up my thread, there's lots of info in it. To summarize - content wise - there's nothing. There is only a lack of a spine number and some additional logos on the cover.

So nothing to worry about my friend!

The discs are exactly the same as the US version, the difference is in the covers....

The Canadian version doesn't have the usual Criterion spine number, and has a relatively large Alliance (the Canadian distributor) logo on the front cover.

After some complaints, Alliance have fixed this "mistake". If you bought the old version, you can get a replacement cover from Artisan for free (although it's been a while).

EDIT: Need to type a bit faster....

I thought that only CANADIANS could get the cover with the spine on it?

Something M...Entertainment? Horrible company. Nothing but problems. He didn't feel like helping me solve any of them, said it was my fault he sent the wrong item.

Well, I got mine through the Canadian e-tailer where I also bought the dvd (Dv-Depot). However, I know of some other Dutch people that got a replacement cover directly from Alliance (delivered by courier!), but it could very well be that they have changed their policies regarding this....

Here is the e-mail I got from Jon Mulvaney when I asked for a new cover:
Dear Zac,

The original Canadian release of TRAFFIC included a misprinted cover. The Canadian distributor of Criterion's TRAFFIC - Alliance Atlantis - have committed to support Canadian collectors by providing a replacement cover for this release. This offer, like the Canadian edition itself, is meant for Canada and Canadian customers only and will not be available to customers with mailing addresses outside of Canada.

Please email Alliace Atlantis regarding your TRAFFIC cover at [email protected] and they will arrange for a replacement to be sent to you.

All the best,
JM

It makes sense, because Alliance Atlantis licenced the rights from Criterion for Canadian distribution only. They (rightly so) don't feel any obligation to provide customer support for those outside of their contractual distribution area.

From: You have moved into a dark place. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
Despite what someone posted above, don't contact Artisan to replace the cover - they had nothing whatsoever to do with this release.

Contact Alliance if you're a Canadian - otherwise, you get what you pay for. If you're living in the U.S. but for some reason didn't want the U.S. Criterion version (because the Canadian was cheaper or something) you traded the correct cover for saving a few dollars.

I got one from MJ Entertainment, they offered to take it back minus listing fee. I'm torn, it was a decent deal but the disc looks sketchy. There's no security adhesive around the box, do they have those in Canada?

I got the same exact one... no security stickers. Do you know what the listing fee was? I got it for about 20 shipped, so I think I'll probably hold on to it.

The listing fee is probably about $1.
