Spider-Man Superbit problems?

I just got this email from Amazon. They canceled my pre-order for the Superbit and shipping the remaining item in my order and charging me for shipping now that the order is less than $25. They also put my order into "shipping soon" status so I can't add another item.

Has anyone else had this order canceled?

-------------------------------------

Greetings from Amazon.com.

We are sorry to report that we will not be able to obtain the following
item from your order:

Sam Raimi (Director), et al "Spider-Man (Superbit)"

Though we had expected to be able to send this item to you, we've
since found that it is not available from any of our sources at this
time. We realize this is disappointing news to hear, and we apologize
for the inconvenience we have caused you.

We have cancelled this item from your order.

Hmm, interesting. I thought this Super-Bit (and Deluxe version) wasn't supposed to be out until right before Spider-Man 2 came out.

Well, just checking Amazon, the release date is June 1, as I thought.

call and see about getting them to credit you for the shipping. You ordered it with free shipping and they altered your order without giving you the option of cancelling it.

Yes, the release date is June 1. I had pre-ordered it using the Share the Love program, and added a CD to my order to bump the total up over $25 to get the free shipping.

Definitely call them. They should refund the shipping, or at the very least give you a coupon for the trouble.

I emailed them this morning and they replied within 2 hours. Here is the response:

==================

Thank you for writing to us at Amazon.com.

I apologize for any misunderstanding regarding this item, and I
sympathize with your frustration in this matter.

It appears that the current availability estimate listed on our web
site may not yet reflect the most recent information provided to us by our suppliers.

While you are welcome to place a new order, it is possible that this order, too, may be cancelled. For this reason, you may want to wait at least a week or two before placing a new order for this item. If you do choose to order again, please know that we will do our best to complete your new order.

After investigating your order, I also see that it did indeed qualify
for our free Super Saver shipping offer before one of the items went out of stock.

Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience. I have
requested a refund of the shipping charges for this order. This
refund should be processed within the next 7-10 business days; a credit of $2.98 should appear on your next credit card billing
statement.

====================

I'm pretty impressed that they handled this so quickly. It is nice to have a personalized response too. I'm still not sure what is going on with this title though. It sort of sounds like the release date may be changed or something.

If you call they will credit you for at least the shipping. Sometimes they'll throw a $10 coupon at you if you sound very irritated.

That's all and wonderful, but nobody's saying why the Spider-man Superbit was cancelled. It doesn't come out for another 26 days as of Thursday May 6, so why did they cancel the order. Is the Superbit being delayed or what?

I bought my Spiderman Superbit from Koreandvds.com, since Superbits are Region unlocked and Korea is NTSC it plays with no problems. I love watching this movie in DTS.

This is not accurate. NTSC Superbits are R1,3,4. The extras disc is solely R3.

No matter, Home Theater PC with DVD Idle Pro and I'm able to enjoy the wonderful world of international dvds.
I never watch extras anyways, I'm in it for the DTS Sound and enchanced picture.

You should choose "ship when all items are available" next time.
