Well, I was a pretty big fan of Season 1 & 2. Started to watch Season 3 and then 9/11 hit soon thereafter and I was like, "What the heck, here we had a dozen people trying to survive out in Africa, while we just had 3000+ people get killed. Operation Enduring Freedom became the real 'Survivor' for me."

Either I have a split personality and you post when I think Im asleep or we have the exact same Survivor experience!

So, anyone pick this up? (I did)

I plan on getting it this afternoon. I missed out on the first season but after watching Survivor All-Stars and the whole thing between Hatch & Susan its got me interested. If I time it right I can probably watch an episode a week and it will carry me until September when the next Survivor starts. :D

I love Survivor, but I don't get the appeal of owning it on DVD. I could see renting it if you became a fan of the show after this one aired. At its heart, it is a game show, which makes it different than re-watching CSI, Law & Order, or something like that on DVD (which I love doing).

Picked it up last night. Can't wait for them to release Season 2.

bloopbleep 05-12-04 11:41 AM

this was the best survivor by far, hope they do a all-stars dvd and that be that.

sven 05-12-04 01:38 PM

I'll get every single if they release them. But since so many people seem to be passing on season 1 I doubt there will ever even be a season 2 set. :(

Leechboy 05-12-04 03:15 PM

I picked up the only copy Circuit City had yesterday. I have to say that the packaging is excellent. The first 4 dvds are in clear Thinpaks and the "Outragous Moments" dvd is in a regular case. I hope they release the rest of the series.

conscience 05-12-04 04:34 PM

hoping they do Africa season with Big Tom commentaries.

My favorite season was Africa followed by Season 1 then the All-Stars.

The others were just...okay.

Agreed.

Well, besides my slight error, Season 3 did start airing after 9/11, but my viewing habits after 9/11 was pretty much glued to the news, and Survivor was the last thing I was interested in. I tried to watch the first episode of Africa and just didn't come back to it afterwards. With the Anthrax scare and everything else, Survivor was like, "who cares?".

Vonner 05-12-04 09:15 PM

I have an ulterior motive in picking up Survivor season one on DVD. You see I missed the first four seasons of The Amazing Race and I would really like to pick them up on DVD. I figure if CBS sees the Survivor series selling well maybe they will see the market in their other game shows *cough* Amazing Race *cough*.

I can dream can't I?

Is anyone else looking foreward to this?
Never seen a single second of a single season - so no, I'm not looking forward to it. :D

So you came into this thread why?

Again, I will have to buy this release so as CBS will hopefully release the other seasons.

Season 2 was my favorite by far :D

One of the main reasons why I could watch that season over and over. :D That goes for Colleen, Darrah, and Shawn/Jenna and their respective seasons aswell.

Regualr TV needs an Colonoscopy

You gotta be kidding - so not only are we subjected to Survivor after Survivor after Survivor (how soon before they run out of places to do these stupid shows -- not to mention, just in general, Reality Show after Reality Show after Reality Show), if thats not bad enough, now we get to have it on DVD so we can mindlessly pour over it at our viewing whim rather than wait for the standard weekly lobotomoy schedule.

Network prime-time and sitcom television is the antichrist and the bane of my existence - I cant stand it - I cant remember the last regular "TV Show" I ever watched.

So what is it about a Survivor thread that made you stop by and post? Sheesh! Talk about a threadcrap!

JupiterPrime 05-13-04 11:29 AM

Becasue it disturbs me that crap like Survivor makes it to DVD while other worthy film titles are still in limbo

Maxflier 05-13-04 11:42 AM

Luckily for us,you aren't the guy who decides what is worthy of being released and what isn't.

Yet you don't point out any particular title that Survivor is "blocking" from retail shelves. What you deem "crap" is loved by millions. I love Survivor, and it can be argued that this show needs a DVD release more than any other due to the fact that (aside from the first season under discussion) CBS never airs repeats and the show is not in syndication.

I am not saying that this is "the most worthy" or "most important" TV release or DVD release, jut that the IS an audience for this show, and it has just as much merit as many of the hotly debated films here that have petitions running (Goodburger, Just One of the Guys, etc).

With Survivor you either get it or don't, but Jesus, don't waste your time or ours by going out of your way to threadcrap.

Bleddyn Williams 05-13-04 12:31 PM

Groucho 05-13-04 12:39 PM

I was going to say "Finally I agree with Qui Gon" before I realized it was Qui Gon Jim. Great post.
