My So-Called Fraud Charges

Here's something many of you will get a kick out of: Ross Rojek, the CEO of Another Universe, has been indicted for allegedly bilking investors out of approximately $1.3 million. For those who don't remember, ANother Universe offered an exclusive My So-Called Life DVD set a couple of years ago. People who ordered the set reported having their credit cards double-charged and/or not getting the extras that were promised.

When correspondence Blomberg received didn't have a letterhead, he said his grandson became suspicious and advised him against investing. But Blomberg sent a check anyway.

Rojek's indictment on eight counts of mail fraud, two counts of wire fraud and three counts of money laundering. Each mail and wire fraud count carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. The maximum sentence for each count of money laundering is 10 years.
See, folks. If you screw DVD fans up the ass... well, lets just say that karma is a beautiful thing.

This news almost makes the whole debacle worth it.

Oh, thank God. He had that one coming. It's sad though, that it has to be something that big before law enforcement does something. But when it's just a few consumers (3000 or so) being bilked out of product ($100) and double/triple-charged and told lies and false promises (fraud), nothing happens when you report it (even en masse)

I really do feel bad for these people.

Just think. The nerve to sell bootgeg My So Called Life sets and forget the extras.

Look on the bright side. Maybe he will send everyone a $5 off coupon to use on their next order.

Actually, at one point, Ross promised $30 gift certificates, MSCL T-shirts, and another surprise gift to make up for all the hassle with the set. Of course, none of those ever materialized.

Ross and I nearly went into business together when he wanted to create a customized shopping site with my old company's branding, powered by AnotherUniverse.com. Good thing I never took him up on it. The contract he sent me was terrible.
