Wild at Heart DVD news.
Lynch says maybe as early as July for a US region 1 release of Wild at Heart.
Info taken from http://www.dugpa.com/
I can't wait for this one.

I wasn't sure this was happening for real. At least it appears it's definitely happening in R1 soon
anytime this year would be cool with me!
Thanks for the update.

Whenever this hits DVD it won't be quick enough.
If you look at the website, Lynch was finishing the color timing of the new transfer at the end of February, and there will be no extras, so I actually have hope for this coming out in July.

Great question, Giles. And if it is going to be the opticaly fogged R-rated version, what about the already released R2 version? Did that have the fogging? Anyone know?

Having seen both the fogged and unfogged version of the movie, the smoky effect of the fogged version looks aesthetically better and covers up the fakeness of the prosthetic better. IMO.

As far as the effect looking fake without the fog, I only noticed it when I played the scene in slow motion.

Have we confirmed this is extra-less? I don't think Lynch is entirely anti-extras anymore; I know he won't participate in them himself, but the 'Blue Velvet' special edition had stuff, and Lynch himself was trying to get the studio to include cut scenes on 'Fire Walk With Me'. I was under the impression that the studio had hacked almost an hour out of 'Wild At Heart' before it was released, so I really hope that the DVD has something discussing what was cut, even if he chooses not to show it to us. [I wouldn't hold my breath for an extended cut, after he Smitheed 'Dune' and all.]

Although, Lynch cut this himself.

This was posted over at the Bits rumor mill on Friday:
Somehow I had a hunch July was wishful thinking.
I hope there's something in the way of extras. I'd sure love to see some of the deleted footage if it still exists, even in rough form.
Moving on, earlier this week in the daily column, I mentioned that director David Lynch had revealed that his Wild at Heart: Special Edition will be released on DVD later in 2004. We've checked in with our industry sources, and sure enough... MGM is currently planning to debut the title on disc in December, along with a price reduction on Blue Velvet. No word yet on the extras, which are in production as we speak, but you can definitely expect anamorphic widescreen video and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio.
