I was on the set. The new ending...

Spoiler:
Matt Damon walks onto a beach and instead of Franka...it's BEN AFFLECK. The two kiss and hold hands as Lola runs by. It's poetic.

digitalfreaknyc 04-23-04 06:38 AM

I'm confused...

Now I'm reading that it's a 2 disc special edition. What...they couldn't fit a DTS track on a TWO DISC VERSION??? What is so extensive that it warrants two discs but getting rid of DTS?

LOL. Good one.

I'm satisfied with the current release. I won't be buying this rubish.

Any more info on the new beginning and ending? The "Inside a Fight Scene" sounds good, but is the disc missing the director's commentary? By the way, I believe it is only a single disc:

The Bourne Diagnosis
Cloak and Dagger: Covert Ops
The Speed of Sound
Declassified Information
Inside a Fight Sequence
Moby "Extreme Ways" Music Video
DVD-ROM Features
Cast and Filmmakers

This re-release BS is really getting on my nerves.

ukywyldcat 05-19-04 02:09 PM

yeah, i'm tired of it too. makes you feel "milked" all the time...

marty888 05-19-04 03:06 PM

When substantive extras are added to make a SE of a title that's been out on DVD for several years (such as Angel Heart) I'm all for it - but on this , I'll pass.

digitalfreaknyc 05-19-04 04:09 PM

Same here. If they are ADDING extras, then I guess I can't complain much. But when it's a different edition with different extras, then I have a problem. Do I buy and keep both?

speedyray 05-19-04 08:09 PM

Sounds a lot like Fast & Furious. Had both versions and preferred the original non tricked edition. Will not be doubledipping for a change. These multiple versions are starting to piss me off as well.

Mr. Cinema 05-27-04 01:41 PM

Did the first release of Bourne Identity drop in price? Some sites show a price drop, and others do not.

tmazur23 06-23-04 10:51 PM

I don't have a copy of Bourne Identity yet, but I'd like to get it. At this point do you think it's worth watiing for this extended edition? I'd like to take advantage of this DDD deal, but I'll wait if this DVD is worth it.

Jason Bovberg 07-07-04 08:55 AM

As feared, this release is pretty shameless, and you can sense that Doug Liman wanted nothing to do with it. His commentary is gone, and he's nowhere to be found among the supplements. And this DVD is one of the most blatant cases of false advertising I've come across. Here's the DVD Talk review...

I'm torn. I don't have the original disk, and I've been wanting to get it for quite some time. I wanted the commentary, but at the same time, I wanted to save a couple bucks by buying this first week on sale and then using the ticket that Best Buy says it will have on the sequel. So it goes.

DO NOT GET THIS NEW EDITION.

Get the old one. For one, it's usually at a clearance price already adn this new release will only make that price drop even further. The main reason to get the original version is the superior DTS audio track and the Doug Liman director's commentary.

If you're thinking about that free ticket, well, I personally don't mind paying $10 to see the Bourne Supremacy.

~$8 for the old disc + ~$10 Bourne Supremacy ticket = $18, and you keep the superior disc.

~15 for the New disc + free ticket = $3 cheaper, but you keep the inferior disc.

digitalfreaknyc 07-07-04 12:10 PM

Or...wait and see if Coconuts does their mail in rebate thingie and get it for free plus buy the old one. ;)

I'd totally see your point if I could find the old disc for eight dollars. As it is, it is eBay'ing for around twelve dollars (plus shipping), Best Buy has it for 17.99, and Wal-Mart has it for like seventy cents cheaper. If the new disc is released for like fifteen dollars, plus the free ticket, the new is a bit more attractive.

CuriousGeorge 07-08-04 09:14 AM

I didn't realize that the original disc still carries a high price. I got mine bundled with Spy Game DTS not too long ago from a deepdiscountdvd sale. It Came out to really cheap, i think $6 each after some huge once-in-a-blue moon sale/coupon.

mikewendt 07-08-04 10:24 AM

I've skimed through the thread and didn't find the answer...

Why did they get rid of the commentary that is listed on the original release???

My guess, as stated in the linked review above, is that Liman wanted nothing to do with this rerelease. He's not in any of the new supplements, and I wouldn't be surprised if he asked for the commentary to be removed.

CuriousGeorge 07-08-04 10:50 AM

Some say that it's because Doug Liman didn't technically 'approve' of his commentary track on this new disc.

Others say, as do I, that the vultures producing these dvds realize that by taking out an often overlooked feature to the mainstream audience they can re-release the dvd and make more money if they replace it with fluff featurettes and extra features. Getting rid of the commentary track AND the DTS track frees up more disc space for more stuff.

The Bourne Identity: [Expletive Deleted] Edition

these new dvd rereleases with extra fluff are whack, what would make sense if they actually improve over the previous edition. what i would rebuy would of been Rush Hour, if they had came out with an Infinifilm edition so it would match Rush Hour 2.

Mr. Cinema 07-09-04 10:41 PM

Well, I had trouble finding the "Collector's Edition" of this. Most stores had pulled it and sent them back to their respective warehouses to make room for this extended crap. Circuit City and Best Buy both sent theirs back. Luckily, I made a stop into Blockbuster, and they had 1 copy.

Gotta say I was disappointed with that review, for a couple of reasons:

1. You CAN watch the movie with the additional intro/outro scenes. I rented it and did just that. It is not seamless, you have to push ENTER on your remote when a certain icon pops up onscreen, and the scenes do not integrate.

2. I thought the features rating was waaayyyy too high. I wouldn't have even bothered listing each "featurette" (especially since they are so forgettable that I couldn't even tell you ehat they were an hour after watching them.) They are no more engaging or elucidating than an EPK would be. Basically ALL fluff.

The point I'd like to make is that I was thinking about buying the movie, had just heard about this new edition, and decided to drop a couple of bucks in order to find out which one is more worth a purchase. I'm glad I did, too. I don't have to think twice about buying the old edition.

Got the last copy @ a Target store near my job (San Felipe/610). Damn thing will probably be harder to find as we get closer to July 13th.

jough 07-10-04 09:48 PM

I was considering upgrading if there was a lot of added footage and the extras were better than the original release, but given that:

1) There is no added footage - the "Extended" stuff is accessed in the bonus features
2) They dropped the director's commentary
3) They dropped the DTS track
4) They dropped some other footage and interviews with Limon
5) They added promotional fluff like trailers for other films
6) They dropped the theatrical trailer for The Bourne Identity even after adding trailers for other films
7) The new features sound less than enthralling

Well, there's seven reasons I have for not only not buying THIS edition, but for staying away from Universal double-dips in the future.

For Shame, Universal. For SHAME.
