I could actually see QT naming a version something like that.

I agree that the movie might wind up working better as two films.

I just hope we don't a get the two films combined in what will be an "intended theatrical release" edition with stuff from the 4 hour+ version cut just to show us what it would have looked like with a super-de-duper re-edited complete w/action figure variants of Bride,GoGo, Oren Ishii, and in the really hard to find one, Bill and Pei Mei as a set action figures. I also don't want it followed by one with an unrated version of the film with a shot glass full of the kind of blood used in the movie included either.

Hey, maybe that will be one of the items included with the Japanese limited box set of Vol 2? (actually, that would be kind of cool)

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Kill Bill but I feel part of its sales success is due to the lack of additional high profile releases for the week.

Is this a good blind buy? Is it as good as Pulp Fiction?

So the general public just has to buy new releases on tuesday? I can understand films in theater doing well cause nothing else is playing, but when it comes to dvd's.. it's anything but. People seldomly even realize tuesday is new release day and hell, they wont buy it unless it's a bargin. this, is one hell of a bargin. It's 2 for 20 in best buy which helps it a great deal.

The Best Buy I usually visit on Tuesday is buzzing with people but go there on a Monday and it is a morgue.

It is very different than Pulp Fiction, and is a very non-mainstream kind of movie, so I'd say it's not a great blind buy. You might love it, but you might hate it; I know QT fans who hate it and who love it. Different strokes I guess.

I hated the movie at the theather. But now after having listenned to QT's commentary on the True Romance DVD I understand why KB is the movie it is.

And well I guess I appreciate it more now. On the other hand the way this flick was handled is really really commercial.

But those are people who are into dvd's much like the rest of us. I was speaking of the more casual buyers. If it's a dead week and nothing is coming out then they wont buy a dvd simply because they are there. They will look around and say "well, nothing new for me. see you next week."

Pick how you would rather have Kill Bill.

1 film - 110 mins in length
2 films - 110 mins in length EACH.

There is no way Mirimax would have release a 4 hour film. So, when offered to split the movie in two, of course Tarantino accepted. It was either that or a heavily edited version of his original intention.

Bro, this is the INTERNET. There's the subculture of dorks that will bitch regardless.

Example 1, 1 film 110 mins in length. "Miramax is teh gehy. They runied Torintino's vizion stupid ax I want uncut. To hell with these basturds they th know not get my money!!!"

Example 2, 2 fillms 100 mins in length EACH. "Miramax is rupping US, the fans off by making us pay twice for one movie. Lord of the Rings is SOOO Much better neways I'm not paying twice to see one movie, greedy tarantino I have no. I don't mind sitting for 4 hours on one movie, and I am just lik everyone else they sit thru 4 hours too and the theaters wunt mind either!!"

..and in most cases it'd be the SAME person.

I don't really have a problem with it having been split in two. What's the big deal? It's done, and it has worked out just fine IMO, as opposed to having a 3+ hour film. Let's be honest. . .that's not very practical.

Good to hear it has sold so well. . .I'm personally waiting for a box set.

Yep, the split worked out very well. The film as a whole is 4h 07m minutes. That's a long time. To be honest even when I eventually get both parts at home I'll still watch them seperately.

True. But even at my WalMart at 19.99 the skid is empty but for VHS, and other stores less than 5 miles away have it cheaper! What I am saying is that this is selling well even WITHOUT a bargain...

Congrats on saying that. I wasn't in the boat that ever said that they weren't selling well or that it was selling well ONLY BECAUSE. I'm saying it's one of the factors to it's boost. People see advertisements for Vol 2 and they want to see vol 1 before going into it. Good enough reason if you ask me.

I think it's a stroke of marketing genius to release the DVD and the Sequel the same week, especially beacause of the way they are split up (Vol 2 being a direct continuation of the story from Vol 1) And people will either:
a) rent or buy the DVD this week and then they'l want to go see the sequel this weekend or next weekend.
or
b) see that the Sequel is comming out and rent or buy the first one to decide if they should see it this weekend.

Either way it will boost $$$$$ for sales.

Well, it certainly seems as if something was done right. According to Friday estimates KB2 will probably open with 30-50% more than KB1 did it's first weekend (KB1-$22 mil KB2$-28-30mil (estimate)).
