Why isn't YEAR OF THE DRAGON on DVD?
Quentin Tarantino says it has one of the greatest shootouts in movie history. Isn't that reason enough for this flick to get the royal treatment?

It's an excellent movie, but Cimino doesn't get much respect in the U.S., unfortunately. Even The Deer Hunter is a bare bones release, while the R2/Pal edition is a 2-disc SE with Cimino commentary and some behind-the-scenes material.

MGM released it in region 3, and the reviews I've read claim it's an excellent transfer. There is also an upcoming R2 release on a different label (forget which). So maybe we'll get it eventually - I hope.

Why isn't YEAR OF THE DRAGON on DVD?
It is. I'm just off the blower to the Department of Homeland Security and they said you guys can import DVDs

It's available in Brazil (MGM), France (MGM), UK (Sanctuary) and a few other places. I bought mine in Belgium for less than $10.
I wonder if Quentin Tarantino has gotten off his ass and bought the DVD -or is he 'waiting' for it to come out on Region 1? Hmmm.
Review here of the Region 3 disc (which is the same as the French, Belgium and Brazilian disc). Cover here
If you don't mind PAL you can find it here for $12 + shipping.
It's maybe worth waiting to see if the UK disc has any extras (it seems to have DD5.1 unlike the other releases and is listed as 'Region 0').
Be careful out there

Daniel's suggestion is the best option....and there might be a bit of editing involved when the R1 version comes out.....esp.....when M.Rourke....addresses the Chinese....(those who have seen the film know what I am talking about).....

I don't think it would be edited for R1. It was on DirecTv's HD station about 3 months ago in 2:35:1 HD & 5.1 sound. All of the un-PC slang was still there. Eddie Murphy's Raw was on at the same time. Makes you nostalgic for the days when people could say that stuff without everyone getting offended. Many of the movies that have been on the HD station have been coming out a few months later on dvd, so there's hope.
