Jess Franco's Sadomania

I just ordered this a couple of days ago from Deep Discount DVD. What all do you think of this movie? I've read many reviews (including the one on this site) and it looks very good and fun. I've also watched the great trailer on Blue Underground's website.

Opinions?

Well, Sadomania is sleazy. So, if you enjoy sleaze, you will love it. Personally, I have always liked Jess Franco's brand of sleaze. It has an endearing quality about it and always manages to entertain.

Anyone seen Franco's "Bloody Moon?" Is it worth a blind buy?

Here's a review I wrote for it after I rented it last week on VHS:

BLOODY MOON is a bloody mess, a film made by Jesus Franco to capitalize on the slice-n-dice craze of the early '80s. This film actually works better when viewed in that frame of mind; although it can be viewed as an alternative giallo (Italian thriller), it's too confusing and fits in better with the plethora of Friday the 13th rip-offs (which in itself was a rip-off of Mario Bava's TWITCH OF THE DEATH NERVE). Absolutely no sense can be made of it: all of the characters do the stupidest things as possible in these situations, and even though that is a common trait in slasher films, this film carries it to extremes. Also, the killer (or killers?) is magically able to disappear into thin air, the bodies of the victims as well. The women in the film are quite beautiful, and there is one memorable sequence where a girl is strapped to a large brick that is headed straight for a buzz saw, but the effects are amateurish (albeit in a fun way) and the acting (that includes the dubbing, too) is horrendous. If you were to say that this film doesn't feel at all like a Jess Franco film, you would be correct. In fact, this film lacks his sense of style that is prevalent throughout most of his catalogue. It's not the worst slasher film I've ever seen (that award would go to BLOODY MURDER), and can be very fun at times, but the overall sense of weirdness that doesn't quite gel and loose plotting that seems to be scattered all over the place will make you lose interest. I would recommend that if you are just starting out with Franco, don't view this film because you will no doubt be disappointed.

1.5/5
