I thought it was just me. Hey, who did that parody song? An ex-girlfriend of mine put it on a mix tape, but didn't say who that was.
Just curious.

Apparently it is not a bootleg. Unless, of course, KoreanDVDs.com sells bootlegs. From everything I've read, they are legit; as a result, the DVD should be too, I surmise. Here's the link:
The Red Balloon (Korean DVD)
After getting excited (still waiting on my first order from KoreanDVDs from ten days ago), I found this snippet regarding the Korean DVD:

It is a shame that the DVD is so grainy and the sound so poor, the copy I have is actually a Korean DVD which is no problem as you can turn off the Korean subtitles. It would seem, as some reviewers have suggested, that this DVD was made from a copy of the film stock that was dragged through the streets. It is still watchable but it is a crime that this film masterpiece should be in such a poor state on DVD. Someone has to step up and remaster this film for DVD so that it can continue to reach children in future generations.

HVE has this available on VHS. I wrote Jon Mulvaney some time ago, asking if it might be a possible candidate for release as a low-cost stand-alone short film (similar to Criterion's SHADOWS AND FOG disc). I also asked about Jean Vigo's ZERO FOR CONDUCT, another classic French short available on VHS from HVE.
His reply was that they had no plans for any other stand-alone short films at this time. Which sort of surprised me, because I was under the impression SHADOWS AND FOG had performed very well. (The $14.95 MSRP helps!)

I'm just dumbfounded that Home Vision Entertainment actually repsonded to your e-mail. Every e-mail I've ever sent to a company either gets ignored, or I get a useless auto-reply.

I did mention that there were a number of people on DVDTalk discussing it's availability . . . maybe that helped get their attention?

I was curious to know if the classic short film "The Red Balloon" would be released any time in the near future on DVD? Perhaps a DVD version of the "The Red Balloon/White Mane" VHS release? If so, can you give me any spec.'s on what will be contained on it?
A number of members of the DVDTalk forum (www.dvdtalk.com) have been discussing this film and hoping that it would be restored and released on DVD sometime soon.
Thank you,

Any idea why US retailers pulled it?
How's the quality of yours?
