Elite DVDs At The Drive-In
I was in an obscure little shop once that catered to, of all things, women that are into horror. You know, vampire novels, wicca spells, gothic poetry, etc. Apparently it's a very successful store so I wanted to check it out. While I was in there I saw a DVD for some unknown horror movie, at least to me it was unknown, put out by Elite Entertainment as part of a "Drive-In" collection or something like that. Unfortunately, I can't remember the title right now, but one of the cool things about this DVD was that it had an audio track of typical drive-in sound effects, cars pulling in, horns honking, planes overhead, crickets, etc. that you could play while you were watching the movie. I thought the idea was great, but I didn't want to buy it at full price just for the novelty. Still, I would like to know if anyone has this DVD or one like it and whether or not the gimmick is a lot of fun when you're watching the film or just a gimmick. Thanks for responding.

these look kinda interesting. checking for prices was confusing. i was checking out the Elite website and it looks like the retail price is 14.95 for these now, less than 10 bucks each at DDD.
but places like amazon, DDD and circuit city have 2 different prices for what looks like the same DVD with a retail of 29.95.
are there 2 versions of each DVD or are the stores screwed up because of a price drop?

Wow, thanks for the quick info! I know, I most likely could have done a search on GOOGLE myself, but there have to be some advantages to being a member of these boards outside of just spewing opinions all the time! Seriously, thanks for the link.
The thirty buck price tag is the price I remember from the store, which is why I didn't buy it. If it's less than ten at deepdiscount, I'm there, dude! I think it all sounds great and very imaginative.

Thanks Scared, I appreciate your help. Since I'm mostly interested in GIANT GILA MONSTER I guess I'll have to buy the whole set. I wish someone would have responded who actually has seen these and can or cannot recommend them. I know the review was positive, but I'd like to hear from board members on these.

I bought the set. It is almost like being at the drive-in movies. The management intros, plugs for the snackbar and coming atttraction, even a cartoon, all playing before the feature, are great. They are all very nostalgic. The Dolby 5.1 sound is very good. You get the sounds of a drive-in from all directions. The only thing missing is the smells from a drive-in. Maybe they should have included a smell-o-rama card. I can highly recommend the set. For those looking for pristine prints of the feature films, look elsewhere. Hell, your at the drive-in what do you expect.

Thanks Mike. I'm going for it based on that great review. And I didn't even grow up going to the Drive-In! I just like the idea of a DVD company doing something so imaginative.

I bought this set also, and Mike45 is correct - the retro ads are what make the discs and thats the main reason I bought the DVD set. I coundn't stand watching the movies unless they were MST3K'd - but I was absorbed by " I Bury The Living".
