Recent news about WB's "Freaks"

WB is to release "Freaks" in the original 90 minute version. The original 90 minute version was just found this past weekend in a vault in Transylvania.

Yeah, yeah. I heard that the same vault contained a print of London After Midnight. Banner day for Todd Browning fans.

There is a region 0 disc of FREAKS available on DVD from Xploitedcinema.com. However, they mention in a warning that the quality of the disc is not very good.

There is absolutely no reason to buy a version other than the WB one when it is released later this year. In my dreams I'd love to have the 90 minute version.

I have seen this movie on tv before and I enjoyed it. I am sorry, but I do not get the joke. Is there a supposed 90 minute uncut version? Thanks!

At any rate, I just hope they can fix up the audio nicely. Every version of the film I have seen has had poor, muffled audio.

"The Encyclopedia of Horror Films" edited by Phil Hardy on page 51 lists the original running time at 90 minutes. At some point either before or after release it was cut to approximately 60 to 66 minutes. My M-G-M laserdisc runs 66 minutes.

Thanks. Either way, I think it has held up really well and is still disturbing.
