Each will be THX Certified. As for extras, A New Hope will include a commentary by George Lucas, Ben Burtt, Dennis Muren and Carrie Fisher. The fourth disc includes the most comprehensive feature-length documentary ever produced on the Star Wars saga as well as never-before-seen footage from the making of all three films and much more. We'll bring you the full specs just as soon as we have them. Stay tuned.
Hey, Commentaries!!! Sounds good to me, and keeping good faith with the Ep. I & II discs.

Is Mark Hamill really so busy he can't do commentaries for the films that made his career. I know Harrison Ford has tried to forget all about these movies, but Hamill still embraces them.

Jackskeleton 03-31-04 11:37 PM

When I met hamill it was by request that we not ask him anything about star wars. :p You can lump him into the group trying to forget the films.

ArchibaldTuttle 03-31-04 11:49 PM

I wish some of the other cast members were in on the commentaries, or maybe one with celebrity personalities... whatever its not like there is anyway I am not buying this

Kal-El 03-31-04 11:56 PM

I agree with whoever said it in the other thread that if we were only going to get one cast member to participate in the commentary, Fisher would be the best choice.

whats Hamill's problem anyway? He should be happy to talk about these films, if it weren't for them he'd be a bum.......oh wait I think he's a bum anyway.

He's too busy autographing code 3 x-wing sig plates.

Comic book the movie. The guy wants to move on. Why not let him? :p

To play devil's advocate, it kind of depends under what circumstances you met Hamill. If he was making a personal appearance to promote another project or product, the request may have come from the producers of that product so that their own didn't get overlooked.

Commentaries! Pretty cool.

NaturalMystic79 04-01-04 01:39 AM

Can't wait to hear a tie fighter scream by me in 5.1 surround sound! This set sounds great, even if it is the SE.

dcprules 04-01-04 01:41 AM

Really looking forward to the new audio. If it's half as good as the audio on Attack of the Clones, we'll be in for a nice treat.

JBurns24 04-01-04 02:12 AM

If Hamill wants to distance himself from the movies it doesn't help when he appears in other films saying "Don't F*** with a Jedi Master"

TheKing 04-01-04 02:27 AM

I don't think it's a matter of distancing himself, it's probably more likely that people would ask Hamill nothing but Star Wars questions if he left that out there.

Besides that, is there really anything more Hamill could say that he hasn't already time and time again? Fisher is an interesting choice because she was coked up during those years, so I can't wait to hear what she has to say.

Rubix 04-01-04 02:52 AM

she'll probably be like "wait, you mean chewbacca is real? oh man i totally thought i was imagining that... i didn't want to say anything."

Shannon Nutt 04-01-04 04:41 AM

You are:

A) Assuming that Hamill was even asked

and

B) Assuming Lucasfilm offered him payment for the commentaries

Hamill comes off to me as a pretty decent guy - don't know why he's being bashed by some people.

Will we see the cut Toshi Station scene from A New Hope?

Actually, I'd like to see Lucas put this into the ending scenes of "Episode III"

Geofferson 04-01-04 08:29 AM

I'm glad to hear of the commentaries, but I just wish that Harrison Ford would have participated. (come to think of it, i don't think he's done any commentary for any of his films)

Gcomeau 04-01-04 08:30 AM

I just read about the commentaries and all i could think of (besides Mark Hamill being absent; figures-ohbfrank-) i that it's too bad that Alec Guiness is no longer with us:(. I think he would have participated. Can't wait for this set anyways.

No chance. He's tried to distance himself from these movies more than anyway. He feels the Obi Kenobi role overshadowed his more serious roles in River Kwai, LOA, etc.

ceeece 04-01-04 10:00 AM

A Hamill commentary would justify him not talking about it anymore. He could tell people "listen to the commentary" and be done with it. By having Hamill do a commentary he could really truly move on from the questions. IMO.

Looking forward to this set. And, yes, I want to see the deleted scenes, especially Toshi Station and the Wampa Rampage from ESB.

There is not the slightest chance in hell that Guiness would have recorded a commentary track for these films. Have you ever read any of his autobiographies?

He thought the films were incredibly silly. He was happy to cash the checks, but upset at how this character overshadowed his entire career. He has mentioned that he throws away all Star Wars fan mail before even reading.

A direct quote from Sir Alec: "I shrivel up every time someone mentions Star Wars to me."

Doesn't sound like someone who would gladly sit down and record a commentary. ;)

ThatGuamGuy 04-01-04 10:31 AM

Not to mention that Guinness (the best actor the world ever made, in my opinion) isn't exactly the best speaker; he's a bit dry. (Watch the interview on Criterion's "Tunes of Glory" disc for more of this.) It would be interesting to hear him speak a little bit about the movies, but a feature length commentary by him on any of his movies... he just wouldn't have had enough to say, I don't think.

Besides, he said everything he wanted to say about his movies in his two autobiographies.

I say this with all due respect; as I said, I think he's the best actor ever. But a lot of great actors are so instinctual that they can't enunciate what they're actually doing too well. (especially what they were doing twenty-five years ago, when they made the movie they're being asked about.)

GuessWho 04-01-04 10:38 AM

anthony daniels woulve been GREAT on commentary. his stories when he used to cohost the star wars nights on QVC were really good. :(
