Another vote for Eddie Izzard - Dress To Kill. I also recommend Joe Rogan - From The Belly Of The Beast.

It's only available on his website for $24.95. Expensive, but worth it if you are a fan.

WTF?! no love for David Cross - Let America Laugh? Damn
'Let America Laugh' is a documentary about David Cross doing a stand-up tour; why would anybody reccommend it as a stand-up DVD? It *specifically* has a sticker on it that says (paraphrased) "This is not a stand-up comedy show, this is a documentary".

I'd like to chime in Mitch Hedberg's "Mitch All Together" as well; the DVD has an uncensored, unedited version of his Comedy Central show; it's almost twice as long, and it's really cool to watch the way they cut it way down. (Also, I think it's funny that three different people explained it in exactly the same way, as if it hadn't been said by the other two.)

And, of course, anything by Eddie Izzard is guaranteed to be amazing.

It is still mostly filled with standup footage, it just isn't a straight stand-up show.

Is this the same as the VHS that was out awhile ago? (The cover was yellow with other colors going on around I believe and it had a picture of him in the middle of it). Actually, the VHS is the same as his "Off White" album with the exception of like two missing parts (limbo and his sing-along at the end).

If there were a Bill Hicks DVD out there (is there?), I'd be all over that.

Otherwise, I dig the Kevin James special and the Richard Pryor stuff.

I would have to say SEINFELD that's coming out!.. hehe..

I know it's NOT completely a Stand Up Comedy but he does do it at the beginning and at the end of the show now and then.

Chris Rock: Bigger and Blacker was one of my prize finds at a Wal-Mart $5.88 bin. I have not been able to find Seinfeld: I'm Telling You For the Last Time in there, but there have been reports.

I'll add my voice to the folks that like the Mitch Hedberg and Louis Black DVD's. Louis is my hero.

Ouch! I guess that new, young wife of his is more expensive than he thought.

While I'm a fan, I don't think I can justify paying a "Criterion-like" price for a stand-up DVD... I'll just live with my off-HBO VHS copy until the price drops (hopefully the DVD will get a major-label release if his sitcom gets picked up by Fox.)

That Eddie Izzard one must be good. It's constantly on "long wait" at netflix.

Edit: I just realized I don't think Eddie Murphy Raw or Delerious has ever been released on DVD. Wtf?

For some reason when I watched Dresses to Kill I didn't find it funny at all...everyone I know loves it thought, odd...

Dave Chapelle - Killin Them Softly and Robin WIlliams - Broadway are excellent, but more importantly...

WHY isn't Denis Leary's No Cure For Cancer on DVD yet?! This is my favorite stand-up ever!

If you are into more intelligent, topical, witty comedy, he is the way to go. John Cleese has described him as the funniest man in Britain and Robin Williams has been quoted as saying that he (Izzard) is his favorite comedian (in fact, I believe that Williams and his wife helped produce Izzard's "Dress To Kill" tour in the states). Pretty good recommendations, I'd say.

Plus he's an executive transvestite and an action transvestite, to boot!!! Now. how can you beat that!?!?

Absolutely the best, no question. My second favorite is Eddie Izzard: Circle, though it is nowhere near as funny as Dress to Kill. Looking forward to Eddie Izzard: Glorious when they finally get around to releasing it.

I have them all on video (other than the one which was only in PAL), and 'Glorious' has always been my favorite. I believe there's an R2 DVD box set with 'Glorious', 'Live at the Ambassadors', 'Unrepeatable', and 'Definite Article' (or possibly only three of those four), but I'm not totally sure of that.

For some reason when I watched Dresses to Kill I didn't find it funny at all...everyone I know loves it thought, odd...

I don't mean this to be taken offensively, but I watched a few minutes of that Williams special and he openly stole material from Izzard, so I find it a little shocking you'd actually cite the latter as an example of the sort of thing you prefer to Izzard.

Different strokes and all, I just mean, Williams loves Izzard, and, apparently, loved him so much he stole jokes from him. So how can that show be funnier than Izzard's? Old school Williams, no question, he's brilliant, but that show was so derivative of other comics (and specifically Izzard) that it kinda bothered me.

That said, I never liked Chapelle all that much, so his stand-up show being as funny as it was really shocked me. (Since then, I've also come to enjoy his sketch show.)

It's not hard to become a fan of his show. This season, anyway. I swear, EVERYONE's gotten onto the Chappelle bandwagon in recent months (not a slam), but I guess that's what you can expect when you're consistently putitng out such influential material each week.
