Best I found was Dark City. I'd like to find Airheads.

Hmm...this thread makes me wish there was a Walmart around my area.

For American Idol fans, the 2-disk "American Idol Search For A Superstar" of the first season can still be found in the Wal-Mart bargain bins, at least in my area. I haven't watched all of it, but have seen enough to know it is a "keeper". (non fans can stop laughing now please -smile- ). Last month, I scored "The Longest Day" and "The Edge" and "The War Of The Roses -SE" for only $5.50 each so that was a good day! They sold fast and YMMV but I mention it only to keep people from thinking the bargain bins can never have anything good in them. I hate Wal-Marts that have the "pit" of DVD's. If your in Dayton, Oh area check out the Wal-Mart across from the Fairfield Mall in Beavercreek- they have a nice clean display of the bargain bin DVD's on actual shelves!

Forgot to add City Hall (about a year and a half ago).

Great, great film.

TheAllPurposeNothing 03-25-04 11:45 PM

And let's not forget the classic "Batman: the Movie"

"Come on Robin...let's leave inconspicuously....through the window."

At least it will have to do until season box sets of the series make their way to DVD.

Also high on the guilty pleasure list:

Godzilla's Revenge - Terrible movie, terrible transfer...but what grrovy theme music!!
Two Moon Junction
Body Double
the Poseidon Adventure

"Quick, Robin! The shark-repellant spray!"

Did the 2 for 11 deal, twice over, the last time I was there.

Ford Fairlane
Airheads
Without Limits (great movie)
Oxygen (decent serial killer flick, Maura Tierney and Adrien Brody star)

We don't have Wal-Mart in New York City, but when I was visiting Missouri this past winter I found BILLY JACK in the bin (and it was $4.88!)

"One tin soldier ran awaaaaaaaaay"

drjay 03-26-04 02:47 PM

Wall Street and Tigerland definitely.

Living Dead 03-26-04 08:33 PM

I picked up Oscar (the only time I've ever thought Stallone was funny, at least intentionally), and Johnny Mnemonic, which is basically keanu Reeves training for the Matrix. Both are crappy movies that I love!

spinning plates 03-27-04 01:13 AM

wall street
airheads
a life less ordinary

and... spice world!! :)

starman9000 03-29-04 09:52 AM

Muppets from Space
Samurai Jack

MrDs10e 03-29-04 10:03 AM

I've picked up a lot of very good DVDs out of the bin, but in terms of quality of the movie and quality of the DVD, I'd have to say the best is:

Wall Street

It's "One tin soldier rides awaaaaaaaaay" Your membership in the Tom Laughlin Society is revoked!

Wall Street is no doubt the best I've purchased there.

Pee Wee is a great movie (excellent transfer & sound too) but I've never seen it there. That'd be a great deal at $5.50.

BasiaMille 03-29-04 12:10 PM

I was quite lucky, and this was some time ago:

Diner
Singles
The Matchmaker
Grand Canyon

And the list of titles I missed is much longer.

Over the weekend in the $5.50 bin I found (all 16x9 widescreen):

MUTE WITNESS (been on my to buy list since it was first announced. Glad I waited)

HONG KONG 1941 (Chow Yun Fat, great looking Fox DVD)

National Lampoon's REPLIKATE (had never heard of this one, but it starred Eugene Levy and has enough laughs to justify the $5.50. Plus, filled with deleted scenes, commentary etc to make it worth it).

The only problem is digging through it. There were like 5 other people, digging into it this four foot deep bin, with no place to put the ones you've already dug through. I was tunnelling down and continually had the tunnel collapse with other DVDs falling into it. Know there were other good DVDs there, but I eventually gave up.

cleaver 03-29-04 01:03 PM

First Strike
Rumble in the Bronx

For me, by far.
