Ever get rid of a DVD and re-acquire the exact same one again?

There have been a few movies I sold, only to buy them back again, realizing I liked them better than I originally thought. I'm not talking about re-buying something in favor of a SE or better transfer, but acquiring the exact same DVD again. I did this fairly recently with Rocky SE.

I've done it a few times, but only when I find a really good deal on the disc to make it worth it. You're not the only one.

I have sold a DVD so I could get the same one but as part of a box set where the average price of the DVD was lower than buying them all separate.

But generally once I decide to sell a particular DVD, it's gone for good.

I've sold things on eBay and Half.com and bought them again after severe price drops.

What's the point of buying a DVD to sell it? I buy them to own them.

I've done it a few times (Jaws, Donnie Brasco, Born on the Fourth of July, Silverado, for instance). I agree that most titles that I buy are the ones I want to own for the long haul, but sometimes monetary issues get in the way.

Sometimes it's a matter of wanting to get a movie as part of a set. Awhile ago, I bought The French Connection from Columbia House, forgetting that the sequel was only available as part of a box set.

Ive done this quite a few times...usually i sell stuff when i realize that i have too many dvds, or when im a little low on cash. Usually only rebuy one when i realize that i actually do like the movie, and if its a good bargain.

I did this just last week. When my fiancee and me split and she moved out a year and a half ago I gave her a few movies that I had that she watched more than me. One of these was High Fidelity. I rented School of Rock, and it made me want to watch High Fidelity. When I went to Best Buy the next day to buy 21 Grams, I saw High Fidelity on the bargain rack for $9.99 and bought it.

It's called a blind buy, something I do frequently since I don't rent. If the film turns out not so great, it gets sold. Not a hard concept to grasp...

That said, very - very - rarely do I buy a title again that I've sold.

You'd have to be marking them somehow to know it's the exact same disc. That would be freaky...I guess.
Even more freaky would be buying the same title after having voluntarily gotten rid of it.

I've purchased 2 of the same DVD on many occasions, but to replace a stolen copy, not to replace a copy I had previously sold.

If I sell a DVD it's because I've double dipped and want to get rid of the old/inferior one.

I've done it for movies that weren't blind buys as well. I had a tendency to buy movies I liked and not just movies I love. So... if a DVD sits on my shelf too long without being viewed, I end up selling it...

That's why I NEVER get rid of ANYTHING- something I might get bored with I might decide I want after all later on. I learned this a long time ago when I sold all my Sesame Street records at a garage sale, after deciding I was too old for them. Well, a few years after that, I wanted them all back! Lesson learned.

Back in my collecting days, I sold the Taxi Driver snapper (got it for free from whatshotnow.com) and bought the keepcase version for $13 (I think).

Other than that, nope. Just a few rerelease upgrades.

Sadly I've done this a couple of times.

Sold the Matrix when the new version that never came out was announced then later bought it again knowing that it would be a hella long time.

I think I did it with another, but cannot recall the title.

I've done it with CD's MANY times

If having your ex-girlfriend grab a bunch of Criterions and imports on her way out counts as getting rid of DVDs, count me in! I'm slowly replacing them, one by one.

Now I just need to replace her.

That is something I am learning. As a result, I am more liberal with my DVD collection -- allowing it to grow slightly bigger for those movies that I will watch again --- but not for a long time or for that "bored" moment. Another movie I did this with was Ferris Bueller's Day Off believe it or not.
