USA Today Article RE: "spruced-up DVDs"

http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/...d-extras_x.htm

I thought this was a nice article. I always enjoy receiving bonus goodies with my DVDs (at a reasonable cost).

As far as Showgirls goes, I'll be there on release date picking it up, provided they give me an anamorphic transfer this time. I never bought the Scarface box set, but I'm tempted to. Even though these sets get very expensive, I think it's a good thing that they offer these "extras" to the collectors, as long as they still have the standard release for everyone else.

Is the new Showgirls going to be available separately from the boxed set?

Yes, Showgirls will be available separately from the box set, just like Scarface. Personally, I think I'll look great in those pasties. J/K . . . I'll pass on the box set, and will probably only get the movie because my cousin is in it (not one of his film choices).

This basically an idea that was used every now and then for VHS tapes in the pre-DVD days. I still have my Fargo snowglobes.....

I might get the SE of Showgirls just so I can make my girlfriend wear the pasties.

I would rather have special features than pasties.

Maybe I'm in the minority... but I have ZERO interest in this additional crap. I want movies with great pic/sound quality, and tons of special features. The "memorabilia" stuff is something I don't want.

Actually, I would like a FULL screen version of the film (which actually has more lower nudity in a scene) plus an anamorphic widescreen image.

Hmm...I'll definitely pick up the Showgirls set provided there is an anamorphic transfer this time.

To think that MGMs Jean de Florette and Manon of the Spring DVDs have terrible non-anamorphic transfers - even though these films are on most critics Top 100 list.

Makes me wanna cry.

Oh man, oh man, oh man. That Showgirls set is so much better than I ever dreamed it would be. I feel a little dizzy with excitement. Hell yeah I double dip for that. I am just sad I have to wait until July. I am anxious for that right NOW.

I totally agree with you, bboisvert. I didn't pick up the Scarface Gift Set because I really didn't need a money clip with someone else's initials on it, and I could care less about the original Scarface movie. I wouldn't really expect classy packaging for something like "Showgirls" but c'mon, that stuff is just plain stupid. Is someone really gonna shell out the extra cash for some stupid pasties and "Showgirls" shot glasses? Are they really? . . . really?

I definately don't have interest in the special items like Scarface's money clip. I like it when in rare circumstances there is a great score, like Suspiria, and they include the cd of said score, except they should include a track listing which Anchor Bay doesn't. But Universal lost the sale to me on Scarface for the time being. I want to replace my original Scarface DVD with the horrible transfer, but I want both the 1932 and the 80s version. I will not pay extra for a crap box and money clip though. They need to release the original Scarface separately ASAP.
