SCHINDLER'S LIST Return?
Anyone have a problem playing the SCHINDLER'S LIST DVD?
I had scratches on side two and had another friend who had a long scratch on the whole back side.
I only single out this title since it was created as a 2-sided disc.
How much more would it have cost them to produce a 2-disc set?
Can you imagine what what have happened if the LORD OF THE RINGS expanded editions were produced as 2-disc sets just to save a few bucks. I bet they would have had a lot more returns!

I think that the package design had alot to do with it. I think they wanted it to be like it was and thus had to make a DVD-18 out of it (or 15, dual sided in any event).

Given the EXTREMELY cheap design that was approved for the R1 release I am not suprised that people are getting some major issues with the DVD package. However given the general tendency around here for people to state that they would buy anything "even if it comes in a brown paper bag" I believe that the poor respect that serious film collectors get from the studios is quite "logical". In my humble opinion this also relates to cover-work as well but that is a totally different issue.
for the record here's a shot of the German verison (which has already been dicussed in the internaitonal forum) nevertheless you could compare both and see where R1 stands:
German: LE

French: Amaray and LE
normal Amaray case

LE

I actually like the packaging on Schindler's List and find it to be very classy. I am, however, disappointed by the DVD-18, and see no reason why a two-disc set couldn't have been created and still keep the book-like presentation of the cover.
On the picture of the German release, I only see one disc in the picture (although it does have cover art), and it looks like there is only one disc tray in the packaging. Since the disc has cover art, I'd have to assume there is another disc somewhere, but I don't see it or where it would go.

From: You have moved into a dark place. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
They often pack DVD-18s by hand - so that explains the scratches, fingerprints, and in one case, even FOOTPRINTS on some of the discs.
