Monday

Igby Goes Down - Black comedy; short on comedy. 5/10 Tuesday
Madame Bovary ('91) - Chabrol's take maybe the best out there but still doesn't quite work. 6/10
Stars in My Crown - Idealistic to a fault. 5/10
Blackboard Jungle - I was surprised by its grittiness. 7/10 Wednesday
Run Lola, Run - Music holds up the movie on repeat viewings. 8/10 Thursday
Washington Square - I'm sure it has its strong points, but I much preferred the Wyler version. 4/10
The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant - Melodrama in 4 acts. 6/10 Friday
Divorce, Italian Style - Funny and dark. 7/10
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - A winner from Kaufmann. 8/10
Pride of the Marines - Very much like The Best Years of our Lives. 7/10 Saturday
Waking Life - Gives me a lot to consider. 8/10
Ali: Fear Eats Soul - The struggle with society and within. 7/10 Sunday
The Idiots - Interesting premise that goes nowhere. 6/10 |

Monday:
Zatoichi: 2-Disc set (Katano 2003 remake) - Wow!!!! Absolutely F'n phenomenal. Maybe some of the most bad-ass swordplay ever filmed. Didn't think Beat could pull off the role but he was excellent. Also, the movie was funnier than I though it would be. Extremely violent but the humor worked as well. Hopefully late on in the week will be . . . Myra Breckinridge - With commentary Running Man - with commentaries & whatever the girlfriend chooses. |
