Schindler's List - Edited?

Just read on another DVD board that there was a scene removed from the new release of Schindler's List. Specifically, a sex scene with Goeth (Ralph Fiennes) and some woman.

It's been years since I've seen the film, so I don't remember one way or the other.

Is this true though?

Don't believe anything you read on other DVD boards. Lies. All lies.

Totally not true. I've seen the movie many times and I don't remember a sex scene with Goeth (there's one with Schindler which is still intact).

When the movie aired on PBS (?) 6-7 years back, there was a sex scene.

As mentioned above, there is a sex scene, but not with Goeth. The original poster's assertion is incorrect....

.... but this is precisely how rumors get started.

Thanks -- sounded odd that it would be cut. Knew I would get the real answer here.

"Schindler's List" aired on NBC.

When NBC aired it, didn't Spielberg "darken" some of the sex scenes because that nudity was gratuitous compared to ones at the concentration camps?

Less sex in Schindler's List?!?! I'm brining back my copy. I'll wait for the unrated edition with 20 minutes of steamy footage too hot for theatres.

No, I didn't make it up. I honestly don't remember which board it was on.

I was interested in finding out if it was true or not because I wanted to know if Spielberg had once again done something like he did in ET (changing guns to hamburgers, or whatever it was).

I'm not a huge Spielberg fan, and find Schindler's List to be a disgrace. (I remember one critic calling it a feel-good movie about the ultimate feel-bad experience.)

"The film won seven Academy Awards, including best picture and best director, but more importantly, it served as a catalyst for a deeper re-examination of the Holocaust by new generations. The horrifying, poignant and ultimately inspirational saga of the “Schindler Jews” connected millions to ideas about the power and resiliency of the human spirit and the ongoing fight against hated and intolerance. Spielberg is one of the creators of the Shoah Foundation, an organization that helped to document the testimony of thousands of Holocaust survivors for an enduring study of the Nazi atrocities and the strength and determination of individuals who persevered even when all hope seemed lost."

yeah, what a disgrace,
Spielberg should be ashamed!!

I didn't think it was possible to threadcrap in your own thread. Apparently I was wrong...

No, I'm not trolling, nor do I think this is really the place to get into a discussion about Spielberg and Schindler's List.

But a few points -- Spielberg can clerly identify with Oscar Schindler -- the rich man who never suffered a day in his life who does a good deed.

If any of you would take the time to actually READ about Schindler you'd see that he was NOT like the character portrayed in the film. His motivations (this is according to his wife) were PURELY about his own advantages, not about saving Jews.

I ask you all to look at the film The Pianist, made by somebody who REALLY suffered as a result of the holocaust. Polanski had no need to exploit little children (crouching in a toilet, or shown in a cute red coat) or show us first-hand the showers, etc. No comic-book Nazis, which is purely what Spielberg had.

"It won 7 Academy Awards" -- Like that means ANYTHING?

But don't listen to me -- do some research on your own. There is plenty of brilliant writing against this film.

Am I really the only one that noticed that all the Nazis now had walkie talkies in their hands instead of guns?

The only writing against the film that even approached "brillant" was the Village Voice review by J. Hoberman. (He is the author of the feel good/feel bad quote). He was one of the few who objected to Schindler's List when it opened. The movie garnered overwelming praise from critics and regular people.

Comic book Nazis?
I read the book and the movie version of Amon Goeth is faithful.

Amon in all his glory
