What is the best film on DVD that deals with the Holocaust?

Although there are better films available that deal with the Holocaust...
I read that from the review here at the site for Schindler's List, and I thought I'd pose this question to you.

What do you think is the best quality film that deals with the Holocaust, on DVD? I loved Schindler's List, as well as The Pianist. I haven't seen many other films that deal with the subject.

So, the floor is yours.

Which version are you referring to. I've seen the 1959 version with Millie Perkins and the 2001 TV version with Hannah Taylor Gordon and Ben Kingsley. I thought the TV version was far superior, although I enjoyed both a great deal.

for a nice double-shot, I'd sit down and watch a few personal favs...back to back:

The Hiding Place-as true as a true story gets.

Night and Fog-from Criterion. watch this first for a taste of the real thing.

Although many people won't want to say it, movie snobs ESPECIALLY, I'm gonna go with Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List

Spielberg will probably never ever get the respect he deserves as a filmmaker but even the true snobs will be hard-pressed do find much fault in all of Schindler's three hours.

Other than Schindler's List, I think the TV mini-series "War & Rememberance" handles it well (for a TV version).

This is a documentary, but the NINE AND A HALF HOUR Shoah is considered one of the best films about the Holocaust:

I also thought Paragraph 175 was excellent too.

My two favorites are both from the Criterion Collection.

In terms of drama: THE SHOP ON MAIN STREET.

As far as documentaries: NIGHT AND FOG.

Shoah for documentary. It's the definitive, comprehensive look at the history, details and consequences of the Holocaust from people who were there.

The Pianist is IMO a far better film than Schindler's List or any of the other Holocaust dramas, even though some may say it only deals with the Holocaust in a more 'indirect' way.

You're right that movie snobs often discredit Spielberg, and I think it's a shame. Mainstream or not, I believe he's one of the best directors of all time.

Yeah, I'd say "Shoah" hits you like a battering ram. Be prepared for a nice deep depression after this one.

I would agree with Schindler's List and the Pianist, and i thought the Night and Fog docu, at only 30 minutes, was really the best documentary id seen on the topic.

My choices for the best:

Schindler's List
Sophie's Choice

I agree with almost every other choice I have seen listed in this thread. The only one I can't stand is Life is Beautiful.

The seemingly forgotten 1978 Holocaust miniseries (NBC) was quite good. A few of the actors in the amazing all-star cast were Meryl Streep, James Woods and Ian Holm.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077025/

I want this released on DVD. Very much.

I've never seen Sophie's Choice, but have always been curious. Is this a good movie, overall?
