Worst Case Ever - The Ten Commandments: Special Collector's Edition
The latest version of The Ten Commandments comes in this weird case. There's two spindles near each other but one of them is a little raised. So, it's like one disc is hovering over the other. While this is really incovenient for whatever disc you put on the bottom, there's also another pratical reason why this case sucks. It turns out that almost the entire shipment of The Ten Commandments at my local B&M Towers had all the discs loose! I actually bought one that wasn't as loose and I think it's okay when I played it. I need to watch the whole disc though just to make sure.
So, if you're buying this, shake your DVD case BEFORE you buy!

Well, my Star Trek VI didn't come in that same case but since it's Paramount some might have gotten that same kind of case. First time I've ever seen seen it though.
And, yes, there's NO insert.

I hadn't realized how goofy the case was but as it habit I shook the package before buying and everything sounded ok. I just opened it though and the 2nd DVD (the one underneath) was loose and pressed between the top DVD and the 2nd spindle. Everything looks ok though, but I agree (aside from snappers ) this is the worst case design I've ever seen.

This is definitely the worst case I have ever bought. Luckily mine came in the mail but the discs were not lose. What makes no sense is they did the case as if it were for 2 discs in two compartments, but instead it has the discs on top of each other in this huge space that makes it easy for them to come free. A big thumbs down to Paramount on this case. With all that space they could have put in a booklet or at least an insert. Disappointing.

I have seen two different cases on store shelves this week. I purchased a white double Amaray style (CC) and today I saw a black double Amaray style (Tower Records) case. No "floaters" noted.
My DVD's sit on their respective spindles fine. One on the center piece and one on the rear spindle. No insert included.

The "Scanavo" makers seem to think this case is "DVD Friendly".
Ha!!
SCANAVO: "We care for your fine products....(just not enough to make a DVD hub that's worth a damn!)"

My copy of Ten Commandments from amazon arrived with both discs off the POS hubs and one disc was badly scratched. Now they are two weeks backordered. . . probably because all of the discs they have to replace!
The case was extra wide for a double (much wider than the pic above, with lots of empty space for those discs to rattle in), made of very thin plastic (flexible actually), and nothing special inside. No insert, no nothin'! The discs, if they would stay on the hub, were aligned as shown above, overlapping each other.
Worst POS packaging period. Makes absolutely no sense for a standard two disc release. If the package had a thick book to include, then maybe this would make sense. But not for the Ten Commandments as released. Guess they should have included replicas of the tablets to force the discs to stay in place. That may have saved money in the long run. Hopefully Paramount learns a very expensive lesson with this release. . .

The case is a full-size double by Scanavo. As Hobbes4444 noted, it is actually "fatter" than the pic shown above in davidvp's post. Like some of you, I also had the misfortune to receive my copy Star Trek VI: Special Collector's Edition in this type of case. It is without a doubt a total disaster. Besides the loose disc factor, it is also very inconvenient to have to remove disc 1 in order to get disc 2 out. And if you're going to go with the disc "stacking" design, then why not make the thing a slim double instead? Thank God I have plenty of double Alphas on hand.

Well the good news is that Amazon replaced my mangled copy of the Ten Commandments with a 2 disc white amaray style case (criterion style). Discs on hubs, but damn that white case is fugly. . .

I just got my first dvd with "locks" on it, it was The Last Starfighter. I was trying to pop it open and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't budge, and that's when I noticed the locks. It had never even occurred to me to look for such a thing on a DVD case.
