Looks like you'll get your chance .... this was posted by Cokeguy in the Marx Brothers thread:

"Fans of The Marx Brothers are in for a treat as Warner Home Video will release seven classic films onto DVD this year. Due on May 4th, the titles include A Night at the Opera, A Day at the Races, A Night in Casablanca, and the double features Room Service/At the Circus and Go West/The Big Store. Each disc will include remastered video and audio and a bounty of bonus materials, including audio commentaries (Leonard Maltin on A Night at the Opera and "The Marx Brothers Encyclopedia" author Glenn Mitchell for A Day at the Races), new documentaries, vintage MGM shorts, classic cartoons and more. Each disc will retail $19.97, or you can pick up a boxed set package of all five discs for $59.92."

The new special edition of The Ten Commandments has one of the best scholarly commentaries I've ever heard--ranking with Roger Ebert's for Citizen Kane and Annette Insdorf's for the Three Colors Trilogy. It's by Katherine Orrison, who wrote Written in Stone, a book about the making of the movie. She barely stops to breathe amid a nonstop flow of information about the movie during its 220-minute duration.

Mike Nelson of MST3K does a commentary track on the upcoming edition of Reefer Madness that I'm looking forward to. It comes out on 4/20 (naturally).

There's also a fine--if short, 37 minutes--retrospective including recent interviews with Charlton Heston and composer Elmer Bernstein, as well as some good behind-the-scenes footage.

Consider also that the original bare-bones release sold for $34.99 and this special edition retails for $19.99. I recently sold the first one for $10 on Half.com, and the new one can be ordered online for less than $14 shipped.

Considering all that, upgrading is an easy choice.

Its an excellent commentary. Very informative and chock full of great Marx Bros history.

Its going to be on the new set as mentioned above. I have no idea if it will be the same commentary as the Criterion LD or if Maltin is going to do a brand new one. Either way it will be pretty good. He seems to be a Marx Bros expert.

I know the Reservoir Dogs has a critics commentary, with 3 critics each getting a third of the movie on the one track. Have to watch it again to get the names.

A completely worthless commentary--my opinion, of course. They don't know anything about the film or its making; they just offer their opinions and are not scene-specific. On top of that, it's over the pan-and-scan version of the film, which somehow seems appropriate.
