You know, thats what I was thinking too.
All I know is on my TV if I select 16:9 on my Malata, on a Non-Anamorphic Widescreen movie it will windowbox it. However, on Nightmare (and on all Anamorphic Titles) it is displayed correctly.

A select few movies are flagged correctly and will be automatically zoomed by the Malata.
This came up in this forum once before with Malata owners who swore that their copies of The Thing were anamorphic.

The Malata has a function that will automatically scale a non-anamorphic disc to fill a 16:9 screen so long as the disc is properly flagged to indicate non-anamorphic letterbox. The problem is that most non-anamorphic letterbox discs are not flagged correctly, and instead read only "4:3 Video". The Malata thinks those are full-frame 4:3 and doesn't scale them.

Ok, that makes sense. Now if you excuse me, I am going to pretend that my Nightmare Before Xmas is Anamorphic...
