DVD Profiler Website

Did DVD Profiler go away or something? I am trying to update my DVDs and I get nothing. There is nothing at their website either. Its been this way for about 8 hours now.

Sorry I didnt know where to post this.

Randy810 02-27-04 12:10 AM

It's working for me, very slowly, but working. Maybe they know of the problem and are trying to solve it. Check tomorrow.

No help but "misery likes company". It will drive me crazy even though I don't need to add anything right now.

pro-bassoonist 02-27-04 01:00 AM

it has been slow to dead all night.....dont know what is going on. horrible!

niiyama 02-27-04 03:21 AM

I also wanted to add titles and it has not worked for me all day.
(It might be slow but I didn't wait that long.)

The website does not load.
This has been going on the whole day also.

Are they OK?

RevKarl 02-27-04 04:19 AM

Still down as of 2:17 am PT.

There has been some conjecture here and on other DVD boards that the NYT article on DVD collecting has caused DVD Profiler
and similar sites to be overwhelmed by "newbies."

EPKJ 02-27-04 04:26 AM

Well, it is morning and I can't even get a connection to the DVD Profiler site. My guess is that some upgrading is being done.

MaudlinHarold 02-27-04 06:34 AM

Not sure, but this may have to do with extra traffic from the NY Times article. I know I had a hard time getting onto Guzzlefish too.

murpm3 02-27-04 07:46 AM

This kinda stinks....I hate it when thing dont work. Oh well....I am gonna go to work, and hopefully the site is back up when I get home.

garolo 02-27-04 08:01 AM

This is where DVD Profiler has the advantage over the other tracking services. A fat client that can be run without the web site. You can enter, view and change your data without connecting to the server. I'm not saying that DVDP is overall better than the others just in this case it is.

JestersTear 02-27-04 08:30 AM

Can someone tell me how to add a completely new CD to their database? The only options I've seen seem to just be for modifying an already existing entry.

onebyone 02-27-04 08:44 AM

I can't add titles to dvdprofiler or get in to dvdaf. Of course, I got a big fat dvd order today just sitting here waiting to be added, but what can you do but wait it out? **Shrugs**

bodomnet 02-27-04 08:47 AM

I have had the same prob for 2 days now...

tonyj 02-27-04 08:49 AM

You would think they'd at least have a way to email paying customers and let them know what's up. They must have everything on one server. Hope they didn't have a major wreck...

TomOpus 02-27-04 08:56 AM

This happens from time to time. No biggie. They'll get it up.

I've had the exact same problem the last 24 hours with both Guzzlefish and DVD Profiler... Damn_Newbies...

tonyj 02-27-04 09:06 AM

Sounds like it's time for a cluster and some round robin DNS...

Billy Madison 02-27-04 09:07 AM

Anyone have a link to the NYT article?

mookiemeister 02-27-04 09:09 AM

Hope their web site can be up soon.

HistoryProf 02-27-04 09:51 AM

both profiler and guzzlefish are down for me too....stupid newbies....

mrcoaster 02-27-04 11:15 AM

Guess I'll wait to update with my most recent purchases then. Now, EVERYBODY's logging their 10 DVDs into DVD Pro! ;)

Tazwolff 02-27-04 11:38 AM

First time I decide to use DVDP this happens. :(

Also, Guzzlefish has been like this for me for most of this year. I'm never able to get into it.

AK_Farmdog 02-27-04 01:28 PM

I have been using DVD Profiler for about a year now and I have a lot of time invested in it. Does anyone think we should be concearned becuase the Intervoactive site has dissapeared?

bodomnet 02-27-04 01:49 PM

Guzzlefish has been ok for me (slow but working)
I have faith that profiler will be ok.. it has so far been fine....

NO, because your data is saved to your hard drive.

EPKJ 02-27-04 03:03 PM

I noticed that Guzzlefish is now back up but very slow. However, DVD Profiler is still down. They must be working on getting a new server.

jough 02-27-04 03:13 PM

Guzzlefish has always been slow.

You can blame me for the problems with DVD Profiler. I just registered finally last month.

Expect them to go under, now that I've paid. ;)

mookiemeister 02-27-04 04:39 PM

I've been having problem with guzzlefish yesterday and today. But finally was able to add some new stuff. It's just slow.

DVDProfiler, on the other hand, is different. I can't even access the DB. Nor can I access their web site or forum. And I have some stuff to add to it too. I hope they come back up soon.

Kimiakane 02-27-04 06:32 PM

Wow, no wonder! I thought it was just my computer or something. I tried 5 times yesterday to enter my 502nd DVD and with no luck. This is the first time it's happened to me so I'm glad I read this before whining to their website. Thanks! ;)

murpm3 02-27-04 07:06 PM

Im glad I posted this...I wasnt sure if it belonged in this forum....Didnt know where else to put it!

Now....when will this darn site be up...I have 5 dvd's to enter into my database.....OH THE INSANITY!!!

ned 02-27-04 07:40 PM

Since the other sites are slow, I'd love to invite you guys to join up with Mediachest. We allow you to keep track of DVDs, Games, CDs and books. We also allow you to keep track of borrowing when people borrow things from you. There is even a group on there for DVD talk if you want to browse collections of other members.

You can even upload pictures of your collection and have them appear in your profile.

Its all (GUTS) fault!
He had to go shoot off his mouth and get the whole darn world involved....

Geezzzzz Gut, can't you keep our DVD collecting thing a secret...???

RevKarl 02-27-04 09:31 PM

Okay, folks, here's the real deal.

Ken Cole from InterVocative Software just posted this to a similar thread over at HTF:

"Thanks for your concern. I have good news and bad news. The good news is that it's not bankruptcy - IVS as a company is alive and well. The bad news is that it's not the NYT article - just incredibly bad timing for a hardware failure. Couple this with a comedy of errors involving our servers and ISPs, and we have the downtime as a result. I had held off responding, hoping to have a resolution timeframe to post, but unfortunately, I still don't have confidence enough to make any specific promises.

We will be back up as soon as physically possible - both of our ISPs are working on the issues, including bringing an entirely new server online and copying the data across. With the sheer volume of data we host, it is not a quick process under the best of conditions...

Thanks for your patience."

As we can no longer blame "Guts" for this, I believe that jough is clearly at fault: no doubt his $25.00 bought the chip(s) that failed!

drjay 02-27-04 09:34 PM

Guzzlefish needs to start charing or something, so they can get a fatter pipe/better server, cos the speeds have sucked for a few months now. Too bad cos I like it alot more than the others =\

mookiemeister 02-27-04 10:36 PM

It's good to know the reason for DVD Profiler's server problem. Hope they can fix the problem quickly and everything will be back to normal shortly.

pro-bassoonist 02-27-04 10:59 PM

I think that we should still balme everything on Gut :D

ummm...hemmmm

niiyama 02-27-04 11:53 PM

Thanks for the post RevKarl
I am glad to hear it's not bankruptcy.
I can be patient, but if it were gone forever I would be very very dissapointed.

It's true, my $25 bought the case of beer which one of the techs spilled on the server.

I'm telling you, any time I finally break down and buy a piece of shareware it brings the company to its knees and they go out of business, thus negating my "lifetime" of free updates.

It's like clockwork.

Sorry dude, I tried it and there is so much that isn't even in that database. Also, it counts a movie with the first letter being "A" as in A Beautiful Mind in the A's. Every other list has it in the B's.
