I watched the Bujold footage last night - yuck! Kate is obviously the better Captain.

I had higher hopes for the packaging of Voyager... but I agree with iove about the jigsaw puzzle! Plus I can never get it back in because it always catches on the flap holding the bottom together, and then you have to get that top piece under the half circles.. They really need to hire someone to make a good, practical case! Or just put them all in the thin cases!!

But aside from my hatred of all the Star Trek packagings, this is my first time watching Voyager, and so far it looks like an intriguing show. The DVDs (plain as they are) contain a nice picture and sound all around.

To anyone who's watched the DVDs and bonus features, should I avoid them? (I made the mistake of watching the first season features on DS9 and had a few things ruined for me... more wonderful fore-thought).

Most of the special features on these ST DVDs will give away certain things, so to be safe, don't watch them until after your finished watching the set.

How were the Genevieve Bujold scenes?

I started as an intern there around episode #107. They pulled all of the dailies so I was never able to see her scenes. All I managed to get was her costume test screen.

That's fair, but the only other format it's available on right now is VHS, which will drop you 225.00. Let me know how that works out for you. In the mean time, I am quite satisfied for a full season for 70.00. That's less than the price of five episodes on VHS, and breaks down to about 4.67 per episode. You know, that's not too shabby. Show me ANY TV show on VHS that cost that much and I will show you cheap ass Good Times tapes that were of piss poor quality. To have something of this quality for such a low price is amazing. I realize Paramount isn't charging 39.99 for this set, which upsets some because they can find DOC season sets for that price at Wal Mart and wonder about that, but come on, Paramount was selling these off at 14.95 a pop on VHS and still has to pull in a profit for the series on DVD. 70.00 isn't bad, 90.00 isn't bad, and 100.00 isn't really that bad either, tho I do agree they should have dropped the SRP a tad for the five disc set as opposed to their normal seven disc sets, but it's still a good deal either way. It's a win win situtation, and if it bothers you, then buy it on VHS or don't buy it at all.

I hate the packaging, but at least I have the show on DVD. I still can't figure out if the flaps should go over the top half or under the top half of the box. My set came with the front flap one way and the back flap the other way.

The Bujold footage is one of the greatest Trek extras I think. Studios usually bury this stuff and as interested as Voyager fans are in seeing this, it's great that it's included. Obviously, Mulgrew was the better choice, but I thought the Bujold stuff was interesting. I'm sure she would have become more comfortable in the role, but she would definitely have been a much colder captain.

The half-circle flaps go on the outside. The upper half of the slipcase has slightly smaller dimensions than the lower half, making it a more "comfortable" fit.

I was curious, are these sets selling as good as the other seasons did? I couldn't help but wonder with the high pricepoint they have.

She wasn't bad at all - but's she gives a more feminine and introverted performance than Mulgrew. It would have been a much different character. Genevieve is a lot older-looking than Kate (not sure of the age difference in real life), and seemed much more "frail" than the assertive Mulgrew.

We also get to see just a few seconds of a MALE trying out for the Janeway role. The actor looked to be of Arab decent...what an interesting choice THAT would have been...wouldn't be a bad idea for a NEW Trek show.

If there are still folks that want to buy the season sets, I HIGHLY suggest you go the Columbia House route. This week I ordered DS9 season 3 for just under $50 if I remember my calculations corrrectly. Cheaper than amazon, ebay, and the guy with the employee discount. The only reason I can think of for not going w/CH is if you plan on not buying any other movies ever again.
