is Saving Private Ryan DTS OOP?

I can't seem to find it anywhere online. I know that it did say Limited Edition.

Jackskeleton 02-21-04 10:27 PM

yeah... limited edition... ..

Simpson Purist 02-22-04 07:02 AM

There's plenty of SPR DTS DVDs at my local Best Buy.

joliom 02-22-04 07:38 AM

Limited to only 100 million units...

dbmottle 02-22-04 10:00 AM

It just seems that no store has it anymore. Bestbuy.com, Circuitcity.com, DDD, Amazon, Buy.com, etc. are all out of it.

I see it @ Half.com, 2 new one @ $14 the other @ $15

uNCSUcks 02-22-04 11:34 AM

Columbia House still has it

Keith123 02-22-04 11:55 AM

playcentric.com claims to have the "DTS" in stock as I
write this and if you get there using the bargainflix link
below you get the discounted price of $16.70. If you go
to playcentric.com directly the price will be higher unless
you manually enter the coupon/sales discount code.

I have never dealt with playcentric.com so I can't say
one way or the other what quality of customer service
they may have...

Tom Woodward (DVDanswers.com webmaster) posted information on the Home Theater Forum stating that a 2-disc "60th Anniversary" edition of SPR will be released on May 25. No word on the specs at the moment, but he did say that a DTS track would be included.

Cool. Will it be a limited edition?

;)

DavidH 02-25-04 02:25 PM

From a video and audio perspective, I don't see how it can be improved. The DTS track is arguably the best sounding DVD track ever and the video looks outstanding (the grain was intended).

darmok 02-25-04 02:42 PM

it'll probably be like the current R3 version, with both DTS and DD5.1 and all the special features across two discs.

Figures.... two days ago I upgraded to the DTS disc... damn! (although, it does sound incredible!)

If there are no audio commentaries or deleted scenes, I'll stick with my DTS single disc.

That site lists an Unrated, Extended version of Underworld set for release in May! If this unrated material is substantive, I might just pick this up.

QuikSilver 02-25-04 04:51 PM

I hope this set will include better extras than the original. Like many of you have mentioned, the previous set is fairly good.

Tom Woodward 02-25-04 05:52 PM

Been holding off adding anything to our site till we had all the details - but we have most of them now including the artwork which I've attached below. Looks identical to the recent region two re-release. Extras include an inside look with the filmmakers, a Looking into the Past: Research, Screenplay and the Vision feature, a Making of a Platoon featurette, a look at the boot camp for the cast, Re-Creating D-Day: Omaha Beach and more.

Sweet! This is Mine come May 25! Thanks Tom for posting the Cover Art.

Tom Woodward 02-25-04 06:04 PM

No problem - don't worry about that massive yellow sticker thing, it won't be on the actual packaging! I bloody hope not anyway ;)

Simpson Purist 02-25-04 06:20 PM

Wow, I may have to triple-dip this one.

digitalfreaknyc 02-25-04 07:05 PM

actually...this will be a 4th dip for me.

i JUST got the 2 disc set from Brazil. *sigh*

Mountain Biker 02-25-04 07:15 PM

I'm definitely picking that up. Cool looking case too!

theneobez 02-25-04 07:24 PM

Definitely picking it up, as I never picked up the older release. Looks to be a gem.

TylerDurden_73 02-25-04 07:38 PM

I'll be sticking to my dts single disc.

svenge 02-25-04 07:47 PM

MUST... BUY... FAR SUPERIOR...

Fok 02-25-04 08:44 PM

Wish they'd had done this right the first time, double dip time again.

jmj713 02-25-04 10:13 PM

Wow, beautiful. So many awesome release coming out it's amazing!

eau 02-26-04 12:48 AM

Glad I deleted it before I ordered the other day.

From Davisdvd.com

This two-disc set will feature 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer with English Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS Surround tracks. Bonus features have yet to be announced, but my feeling is that this may just be a repackaging of the previous release with a trifle new material thrown in. Retail will be $26.99.

QuiGonJosh 02-26-04 05:58 AM

oh man! Tell me its a metal case! :D

There's more than a "trifle" judging from the list I saw. Either way...it'll be mine...AGAIN.

TomOpus 02-26-04 06:55 AM

Wow.... double dip time for me

Simpson Purist 02-26-04 07:00 AM

Can anyone who has the R2 SPR give out an overview of the supplements? Are they any good?

What R2 do you speak of? if you're talking about the 2 disc that's already out there, it's available in more than just R2.

And there are no extra supplements. It just has ALL the extras on the 5.1 disc. The DTS disc dropped the documentary. Nothing else.

It could be one of those book-like custom cases (like Pearl Harbor).

BobSolo 02-26-04 12:00 PM

Why is everyone getting so excited? Do you really think DVD's will still be around in 2058 for the 60th anniverssary?

;)

Apone 02-26-04 12:39 PM

Experiencing my first 'double dip or not'. I feel happy and angry about this. Might sell it and re-buy it because my current one freeze for 1 second before MG-42 nest rush scene. Nothing devastating but yeah. Should get at least 1/4 of the original price.

R2 = Region 2 (Western Europe)

Apone, those "freezes" are called layer switches. These are commonplace among DVDs.

With over 200 movies, I'm surprised to find that it's my first double dip situation worth worrying about also. I guess I'm just a very careful buyer and tend to over reasearch my purchases. If I decide to go for it, I'll probably just pass my current copy off to my father-in-law who would love it.

Geofferson 02-26-04 02:03 PM

Cool packaging - I may have to double-dip on this one.
