I you are talking about getting one now, then definitely go with the Indiana Jones Trilogy. I would likely have gone with the Godfather Trilogy if they weren't currently in the process of re-doing it.

Lawrence of Arabia and Citizen Kane...can not go wrong there!

The Godfather Collection

I'm in the same boat. I went with Indy first. Definitely not the Godfather until the re-release. That's what I'm waiting for. I'm currently looking for a good deal on LoA superbit (skipping CK for now). BTTF, no biggy.

Indy, no doubt.

Ah well I didn't know they were re-doing the Godfather trilogy so I guess I'll skip on that one until it's re-released.
I figured Indy and Godfather would be front runners but I guess it's down to Indy and LOA and Another Classic. I've got a couple more days before I end up buying anything so I'll think about it till then. Thanks for all the suggestions and if anyone else wants to contribute go ahead I'll still check up on the thread. |
When I saw BTTF (bought it on release day), I was really nonplussed. My wife (who claimed she loved the trilogy) was also less than excited.
Godfather's great, but with a new release coming, I'd hold off. LOA & Citizen Kane are both greats (although I'm not super fond of LOA for some reason--I prefer Bridge on the River Kwai), but, again, without knowing your tastes vis-a-vis older film, they're hard to recommend. That being said, I find Citizen Kane to be not only a great film for serious viewing, but also fun just to watch in the background--it works on a lot of levels. I voted for the Indy set. They've held up well with time and they're a blast on DVD. |
gonna have to vote for BTTF here... Second place would be IJ ..
|
probably want to hold of on the Godfather for now, given that they have announced a stand alone remastered version of the first one to be released in May, with a the same treatment for Part II later in the year....
that said: get Treasure of the Sierra Madre and LofA SB. |
Godfather
|
I don't think the Back To The Future set is "essential", but it's a 3-way tie between the others, you need them all.

I just found my deal on LoA. Check out this thread over in DVD Bargains:
