Bakshi Titles on DVD ?
Anyone know if any of Ralph Bakshi's animated stuff is going to hit on DVD ? I know some things are out ( Fritz the Cat, LOTR ) but I'm curious about Fire And Ice.

actually, the Bakshi film I most want is
StreetFight
as well as the 'The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse' tv series he did.

Why is it that the U.K. gets all these wonderful DVDs that we don't have? [grumble, grumble, grumble]

The UK doesn't have that much more animation that we don't have, though I did find DVDs of the old Flash Gordon animated series from the UK (not Bakshi related but still cool).
The main thing from Bakshi that I want on DVD is a complete series set of Mighty Mouse. His version of that was ground breaking TV, and got me out of bed on Sat AM long after I was done watching Sat AM toons.

Here's DVDaf's listing of Bakshi titles on DVD. In addition to Fritz the Cat, LOTR and Fire and Ice, there's also American Pop, Cool World and Heavy Traffic.
Wasn't Wizards rumoured to be released shortly?

that UK edition is bare bones, but at least it has a pretty nice transfer. glad to have found it for $7 in a second hand shop. great alternative to the old VHS copy i had. rewatched this movie the other night, and what a nostalgic trip it was; the animation still holds up pretty good.

I am very optimistic about the Wizards rumor... especially since two or three other of my personal "holy grail" DVDs are finally materializing this year (Star Wars, Quantum Leap, etc.).

I'd love to buy many of Bakshi's more adult animation. His stuff seems to be extremely obscure though. So much so that I really doubt the release of the stuff. I think the most recent animation he did was Spicy City. One of the shorts in that was pretty good so I'd love to own that HBO miniseries on DVD.
What I like best about his films is the mannerisms and movements he captures. Not sure how he was able to capture the inner city so well (if exaggerated some, but definetly based on some real stuff).

I loved Wizards, and I can't wait to get a DVD copy. It's been years since I've seen it.
Is "Fire and Ice" comparable? The cover looks like it could be fun in a cheesy '70s sort of way.

It is fun, but the story just doesn't live up to Wizards. Wizards had much more in the way of archetypes and social commentary, I thought. It just comes off as much more epic to me.

we can only hope it is true
