Lost in Translation Question. ???
At the end of the movie, right before the kiss, what do you think he whispered to her? This has been driving me nuts. I replayed it countless times to try and figure it out but i don't have a clue.
Anyone?

It's been discussed over in the Movie Forum.
You can search and read some of the theories... but no one really knows. Some thought it was a great ending, others called it a cop-out.

What I can't figure out is why anyone would feel the need to know what was said. Imagination, is, for me, a crucial (albeit increasingly rare) aspect of the filmic experience. Sofia Coppola has stated that not knowing was intrinsic to her vision of the film, and I heartily agree with her decision.
As well, this sort of subtlety and mystery is what genuine romance is all about - if you have to spell it out, the magic disappears and you're left with the kind of sub-Harlequin trash that's all too prevalent nowadays. The fact that the ending is open to personal interpretation is, to me, what elevates LiT to the level of something like 'Chungking Express' - an enduring, truly beautiful film - as opposed to the blatantly obvious, mindless romantic comedies that Hollywood churns out by the dozen.

Is that why she looked so sad at the end?
Maybe he told her the studio was only going to push her as "Best Supporting Actress"

According to imdb: The kiss between Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson at the end of the movie was not in the script, but was an "in the moment" ad-lib between the performers.
I hypothesize whatever was said was also an ad-lib and therefore not recorded properly. I haven't seen the movie yet so I don't know quite how the scene went.

This is a question about the movie, not anything related to the disc, so it belongs in Movie Talk. Since there's already a duplicate thread in Movie Talk, I'm closing this.
