Scuffing/wearing on plastic keepcases
I was looking through my collection today and noticed that most of my keepcases have obvious scuff marks on the front and back, usually near the spine. I notice it much more on the ones I've had for a long time. I know this isn't a very serious problem, but I'm curious if there's a way to clean the plastic to shine it up a little.
And are there ways to prevent this? Is it the plastic cases pressing against each other that causes this? Maybe I've been squeezing my DVDs in too tightly.
For clarification on exactly what I'm talking about, here's an example. You can see the wear all the way along the left side (though it doesn't show up in the picture as well as I had hoped):

Very common problem with the cheap clear plastic of Amaray, or any brand, keep case.
The only way to completely prevent it is to not have any DVD's rub up against each other (which is pretty much impossible).
With time, it is destined to happen.
The best way to prevent it is, as you said, to not pack them too tight on the shelf.
I learned that the hard way, and damaged a few double cases packaing them too tight. Obviously, I now leave enough spare room on each shelf to easily accomodate another DVD, but leave it emplty so the others have more room.
My rule of thumb is to always buy a A/V storage at least 50% bigger then you technically "need". This allows for both room and growth.
Good luck!

I've mentioned this in previous threads. although I've recieved responses like, "why, do you live under water?"...and smart-ass remarks like that. about a year into building my library, I started using plastic sleeves. you can get them for about $.09 a piece....even less. I have many custom made by a friend at a manufacturing plant....but they can be had on-line from many places. I have around 1,100 protected now and I'll be "fitting" my more obscure import cases over the next few weeks. these really work well against scuffs and cuts on the case, prevents any moisture and to me it just provides that added protection against damage. my dvds are packed in tight also...yet my cases are in mint condition.

Also, do they make them to fit the thicker, 2-disc keepcases?

Hi caiman-
try here or here. I'm sure you can find other outlets for the same thing.
I didnt look on-line for these....but use my friend when he owes favours
. I do this for my extra long import editions. I still have large box sets, like the Alien Quad...but they are un-protected until I figure something else out
. I'm sure if you search around...you might find some. one of the links above may provide those.

Another good place to get all kinds of sleeves and cases, etc. is Bags Unlimited. They're located in Rochester, NY. I get cd sleeves for demos and other stuff from them. I recommend the 3mil. thick sleeves. 1.5mil. is too thin and crinkles easily.
Here's a direct link:DVD Sleeves
