This was discussed in another Superbit thread -- can't remember which one since a new one is created each week.
Pure speculation on my part....but I suspect that sales dropped as the differences in video and audio quality were too miniscule for most people to notice. In addition, the "regular" versions can often be pruchased at 40% of the price of a Superbit (Legend of the Falls, for example). For myself, I always purchased the Superbit version as a 5% or so increase in video quality is worth it to me, especially with a 61" display. But, I am a videophile too.
On a few movies, more significant changes are apparent (Lawrence of Arabia, etc.).

From: Bruce Campbell invented the internet...and pants.
If you are refering to the other thread, then the announcement was that Columbia didn't currently have any on the R1 release schedule. That doesn't neccessarily mean they are not making anymore for R1.

True. There has been no official announcement. But, it seems odd -- especially when a recent New York Times article stated that a new Deluxe Spider-Man would be issued just before the sequel with mention of it being a Superbit.

I saw that Dr. Strangelove was SUPPOSED to be released as a Superbit for R1 on the 27th of Jan. I'll see if I can dig up that article.
