New Criterion in Nov. or Dec.
Les Blank's BURDEN OF DREAMS
about the making of Werner Herzog's FITZCARRALDO
proof here
I'm looking forward to this. It was on Ebert's 1982 top ten list

For me, the finest flick shown at the festival by far was Les Blank's BURDEN OF DREAMS, a 1982 documentary shot in Brazil and Peru about the making of Werner Herzog's FITZCARRALDO. It's one of the three best making-of-a-movie docs ever made, along with George Hickenlooper and Fax Bahr's HEARTS OF DARKNESS (about the tortured filming of APOCALYPSE NOW) and Keith Fulton and Luis Pepe's LOST IN LA MANCHA. Blank said a Criterion-produced DVD of this film will be in stores come November or December.

That would be incredible.
I loved Fitzcarraldo, and was always astonished at the behind the scenes footage I've seen.
I hope this is true.

HOLY SHITSTICKS!!!
I've been trying to find this movie for years. The little bit of footage shown in My Best Fiend made me seek it out immediately. I cannot wait for this.

The German R2 release of 'Fitzcarraldo' which was released in December actually has 'Burden Of Dreams' as the second disc of the 2 disc set...both 'Fitzcarraldo' and 'Burden Of Dreams' also appear on the German R2 disc without enforced subtitles for the english audio option!
Naturally..if you would want a stand-alone version of 'Burden Of Dreams' then this rumoured Criterion will undoubtedly be the best option.

Thanks for the news, definitely something to look forward to. After seeing Fitzcarraldo, then learning about this fantastic making-of documentary, I've wanted to see it.

I can add a little confirmation to this. I went to a discussion hosted by Les Blank recently and he said the DVD would be out late this year which certainly seems to fit this information...

Criterion should try to include "Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe" as an extra! I'd love to see them release "Six Short Films of Les Blank" too.

They are not releasing FITZCARRALDO, they're releasing BURDEN OF DREAMS, which is a documentary about the making of Fitzcarraldo so there is no reason to hold out on picking up the AB disc.

There is a possibility CC might release Fitzcarraldo because AB has a limited license on it.

I haven't seen the film, but I'll hold off until a Criterion announcement. I'd hate to buy the Anchor Bay version if a Criterion version is right around the corner.
