So what's missing? (Disney Animation)

If I have it right, the only "missing" Disney animation DVDs are Aladdin, Bambi, and Cinderella. Is that correct? And Aladdin is coming out in October.

Now, that doesn't mean they are complete. I think a few of the DVDs are cut, like Fantasia, and Melody Time, etc.

So I guess overall, I'm asking - what's still to get from the animation studios of Disney. I bring up DVD movies, but if you want to talk cuts or cartoons as well, that's fine with me!

Include in that list, Song of the South, which will probably never be released

Has "The Little Mermaid", "101 Dalmations", or "Pocahontus" come out on a special edition DVD?

Maybe in as a future Disney Treasure title if Eisner gets the boot.

But as you mentioned the only three left are in your post.

That depends what you mean by "Special Edition". TLM came out as a "Limited Issue" and the others as part of the Gold Collection. They are remastered with a few supplements. They are nowhere near the newer releases in terms of quality and supplements though.

The quality of The Little Mermaid is total crap. But it is uncensored.

What's missing? How about quality control, the original theatrical versions of the Platinum discs, or Eisner's soul?

Well said. If you look at my sig, you can see that I've been asking for them to fix the Beauty and the Beast dvd for a long time now (since they released the horrific version in the first place). All I want is the original theatrical version, with the original colors, animation and mood lighting intact. Not the soulless version they released.

As to which films are missing, that's already been answered - Aladdin, Bambi and Cinderella for animation, and Song of the South for combo animation/live action. The first three we'll see on dvd eventually (Aladdin later this year) but Song of the South is quite iffy. One might think that with the release of the War Toons in May that we might eventually see SotS, but remember Roy is gone now, and he was a driving force behind the treasures. Eisner only wants to give us snow white 33 and cinderella 298. He could care less about what the fans want.

I'm very concerned about the status of the Treasures. The 3rd wave is completed, and the 4th wave is currently being worked on. At this point, I do not expect there to be a 5th wave until Eisner drops dead. I forsee a gangland style hit, with Goofy as the triggerman.

Put simply: The original version of the film that played in theaters is not on the DVD.

Certain releases (The Fox and the Hound and The Great Mouse Detective are two that come to mind) have only been released in pan and scan -- which means they might as well be unreleased, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not a fan of The Great Mouse Detective, so I don't know how well the animators used the whole screen in that one, but large portions of The Fox and the Hound are about the title characters getting to know one another -- keeping each other at a distance, then getting closer, then tussling. The movie just doesn't work in pan and scan.
